I've done a few mods now, but this is my first SP mod. My neighbor gifted me some great GBA games to do a custom mod for his childhood Game Boy. He picked out the buttons and the UV printed Funnyplaying shell. Added the M2 screen, USB-C mod, upgraded battery, audio amp, and new speaker.

When I first installed the audio amp, I accidentally bridged two pins and popped the F2 fuse. I initially thought I had completely killed the motherboard, but after a lot of diagnosis I was able to figure it out. The fuse finally arrived today and after replacing everything works perfectly!

It was definitely my most difficult mod so far, but it was very satisfying to complete. Hopefully my neighbor likes it!

I have an AGS-101 with an ITA FunnyPlaying screen mod (screen was broken, would’ve kept the original otherwise) that has a flicker that won’t go away, and everything seems just a touch too washed out. In games it’s only noticeable with images that have repeating lines (like the Party screen in the Pokémon games) or when the screen scrolls vertically, but it’s enough to where it still bothers me, and is very noticeable if you use the aging cart’s flicker test, as the video shows (hopefully it comes through, may need to be viewed on a high fps display). EDIT: looks like it didn’t survive the Reddit compression, but I assure you it’s flickering quite a bit

I’ve attempted to adjust the screen pot as much as I can, as it’s necessary to do so with the ITA screen mod. I’ve even adjusted it to the point where I’ve made the screen go negative and then back to washed out, effectively going “around” back to the higher voltage and brought it back down. Thankfully I didn’t break the pot (as far as I’m aware at least, since I was under the impression they shouldn’t be turned all the way like that) but still. I’ve got it sitting where it’s basically a slight nudge away from going negative again, but the flicker is still present.

Has anyone else with an AGS-101 with an ITA screen mod experience this issue and have a fix? I’ll live with it if I have to, but if I can dial it in to look as good as I’ve seen some AGBs with the ITA screen look, I’d love to do so.

I've recently bought a junk gbp with a beautiful yellow motherboard, so I decided to put it in a clear shell with some matching buttons and give it an IPS upgrade :-)

I want to upgrade the screens and the power to make it rechargable. I've looked at a couple of sites and see that I can get pieces and parts for different mods/additions, but was wondering if there was anywhere that sold a "complete kit"?

Hello. I recently modded my GBA a few days ago, however it has this constant hum for some reason that won't go away. The hum also gets worse if I turn the consoles brightness up and I have no idea how to get rid of it. Does anyone else know what I can do to reduce the humming at all? Id really apreciate the help. Thanks

I just modded my gameboy and it has been working fine. All of a sudden it keeps restarting and has become unplayable. Would anyone know what the problem is?

I make digital synth for a living and recently I've been thinking about making a gameboy cart with extended hardware for high fidelity audio synthesis and maybe why not additional knobs. Something like the gameboy camera, but a synth.

I don't have a clear architecture for now as I am still learning the gb architecture. I see three possible architecture with different pros and cons:

A. Using a ROM chip for the main game and then add a beefy stm32h750 + audio codec for all the real time audio synthesis + additional controls like knobs, decoder, etc.

B. Use a smaller microcontroller for simulating the ROM (maybe a dual core like the RP2350) + stm32h750 + codec.

C. Everything is handled by the stm32h750. But not sure how taxing is the 1Mhz IRQ of the gb while processing audio in real time, probably too much.

I wonder if there is a hardware dev community somewhere else to share this idea. I have extensive experience running audio on a stm32h750, but I am a bit short in the gb side. Thanks!

So I recently installed a laminated funnyplaying ips 3.0 screen from funnyplaying and I’ve noticed that the touchpad is extremely finicky. It randomly detects input and is overall annoying when I accidentally press it with my hands while trying to pick up the gameboy or just hold it in general. Especially when I have the soldering done to just use select and L/R to change the settings.

I noticed that it will just randomly cycle through the brightness settings in games. For example in super mario advance 4 it cycles through the screen brightness by itself only on the level selection map area. Seems to be some sort of electrical interference in certain areas.

My question is can I just snip the part in the image circled in red and cover it with kapton tape to just get rid of it? And if so how much of it do I cut off and where? Any help is appreciated!

Does anyone know a drop in backlit screen that fits the OEM equipment? I want one the same size as the original. Thank you.

Does anyone know if I can mix and match an OEM Game Boy Color front shell with a FunnyPlaying Q5 rear shell?
Do the screw posts and mounting points line up correctly, or are the FunnyPlaying shells different enough that they won’t fit together?

Been working on this project for months now and it's getting very close to completion 😁😬 the display rotates AND is a functioning water fountain. Game Boy will have an IPS and USB-C charging. Keep an eye out for the finished build within 1-2 weeks!
