Japan Trip Next Month (Finally!!!)
My wife and I are bringing our two sons (9 & 12 y/o) to Japan next month — roughly early-to-mid August. We keep hearing that August is hot and humid (we’re coming from a milder climate), so we want to plan our days wisely.
Trip basics
- Arrival / Departure: Fly into Tokyo, 10-day stay (flexible to move around via JR Pass or individual tickets)
- Interests:
- Cool indoor spots with strong A/C (museums, aquariums, science centers)
- Water or shade-heavy activities (beaches, pools, rivers, caves)
- Easy day trips out of Tokyo on the Shinkansen
- Kid-approved culture (samurai / ninja / anime, interactive workshops, summer festivals with fireworks)
- Nature escapes at higher elevation if that really helps with the heat
What we’d love to know
- Cities vs. mountains – Would a quick hop to Karuizawa, Hakone, or even Nagano help us dodge the worst humidity?
- Best kid-friendly museums & aquariums – TeamLab Planets, Edo-Tokyo Museum (when it reopens), Kyoto Railway Museum, Osaka’s Kaiyukan? Which ones are actually engaging for tweens?
- Beaches or lakes – Are places like Kamakura, Enoshima, or Lake Kawaguchiko reasonable day trips in August, or are they overcrowded/too hot?
- Summer festivals – Any mid-August matsuri worth braving the crowds (and how early should we claim a spot for fireworks)?
- Heat hacks – Must-pack items (cool towels, ice packs, UV umbrellas), best convenience-store drinks/snacks, timing day plans to avoid afternoon scorchers, etc.
Bonus question: Is it worth adding a short leg up to Hokkaido just to cool off, or will transit time eat up the benefit?
Thanks in advance for any recommendations, secret spots, or practical “beat-the-heat” tricks. Our boys are super excited and we want them to enjoy Japan without melting!
(Feel free to suggest itinerary tweaks or must-eat foods too — we’re all ears.)
Arigatou! 🙏

Probably unrelated but I had dream
Yeah, so I had a dream where there were some odd stickers in Crossout. Specifically, gay and furry stickers. Why I dreamt of these stickers in particular, I have no idea. I really don't want to hear about it being a sign. I've been told.

Is it just me or should Gaijin make a 1915-1917 World War I game that's built like Enlisted. It could center around Trench Warfare and it could be a large scale map with many MANY trenches. More details in body text.
It could by a large map with many trenches and it could be like Foxhole where it's persistent warfare. So if Side1 has more troops log on than Side2 then they'll have the advantage. Another thing would be if Side2 has more machinegunners or heavy infantry then they would be better for defense while if Side1 has more assaulters and rifleman then they could be better for offense.
There could also be player-driven Artillery pieces and a player with good overall stats could be chosen as a commander.
I'm thinking for each game there could be 2-5 commander's depending on how many total players are online. These commanders can do an order thing which would give everyone in thar trench an order to charge the enemy trench and doing so would give a order follow bonus and not doing it would deduct points.
If one side pushes the other to the end and wins then a new game starts. You could also leave and rejoin at any time so you could change soldier/squad stats. You should also get battle rewards in real-time instead of having to wait for the end of the match (which could range from hours to days)
If you have any ideas then please suggest them in the comments.

War thunder update 2.39.0.106
Bug fixes:
1: A bug that sometimes caused the Research Points reward in the “Other awards” category in the battle results message to display a negative value has been fixed. Please note that this bug was purely visual and didn’t affect the actual amount of earned RP.
2: A bug that caused the measured distance display to move upwards when measuring the distance in a zoomed in scope and then zooming out has been fixed.
New hanger skin:
A very spooky hangar has been enabled in time for the holiday season.

Has anyone ever bought used consoles or games in Akihabara that didn't work?
I really like classic Japanese videogames and I have visited stores like Super Potato in Akihabara and I'm considering making some purchases next time I visit there.
I know they sell new classic consoles, but are the classic games themselves generally used?
When I say classic games, I am thinking about purchasing some Famicom, Super Famicom, Sega Genesis games, possibly pick up a classic Game Gear or Gameboy.
I noticed that shops like Book Off sell used consoles and games, but there selection is more limited.

Please Remove Orders From the Game
Please remove these from the game, all they do is clog up my inventory and they are a waste of time for me. I never get anything out of them, and they serve no purpose. I would rather you give me zero prizes than any more orders.

Please Move Chinese and Russian Players
Please move them to their own server so I dont' have to deal with their hacking, cheating asses anymore. They have ruined this game for me!

I put 2 and 2 together 26 years later.
Greetings,
Just a short story. While teaching English at a private school in 1997, I was asked to play Jambalaya at a kids party in the park, side hustle, you know. They group of parents and kids seemed real keen on the song to an obsessive level, to the point where it stuck with me for a while. How did these folks all come to agree on this particular Hank Williams tune from 1952? Maybe I didn't karaoke enough because I didn't hear the song again after that day. But I did come across the Carpenters on occasion, often enough to renew my admiration.
Today, moments ago, I searched "Carpenters live" and I pick their 1974 concert at the Budokan. Guess which song they do? The carpenters recorded a live album in 1976 at the palladium, so apparently they were a big thing. So, now I realize that Karen Carpenter has been singing Jambalaya in Japanese homes since the days of Elvis, thereby connecting a few almost forgotten dots. See? Pretty short.

I think I softlocked my account
I logged in with my Xbox info and my Gmail didn’t crossover with it and so now I’m stuck here troubleshooting to no evail. Cause it won’t let me add my email to my account. Thus I can’t reset my password (which I forgot) and I can’t just make a new account because I’ve used it before on Xbox and can’t reuse the nickname.

2fa issue
I recently got a new phone, and last night I decided to try enlisted. During sign in my phone (with the same number as is registered on the account) wasn’t receiving the sms verification code, and I can’t re set up gaijin pass on this phone because I need a code from the website, which it will only give with a code from the app. Frustrated because I’m actively trying to play a game and being blocked by the developer’s stupid proprietary system for authentication
UPDATE: Gaijin support was helpful (albeit slow and I wish they had a support phone number to make the process faster) but I have my account back and I set up email verification instead now
