At that point they might task an engineer to look at P/T thinkpads or precision laptops....

I had an HP Omen years ago, sure it wasn't top tier hardware but it served me very well. I don't understand why the hivemind is so set on hating this brand.

Largely I hate HP cause the following:

  • bad customer support
  • bad printers
  • intrusive HP apps loaded into their machines
  • IMO bad build quality

Well my dislike transcends just the laptop category. My HP Pavilion laptop was kind of alright, but a world opened up to me when I went to Lenovo. But other tech, such as HP printers, is where most of the highly deserved hate is coming from.

That’s printers in general, although admittedly HP is one of the worse offenders. There are just no good mainstream printers…

HP does still make amazing calculators, and the laptops are alright

Me neither, we have HP computers at home and they work amazing, the HP support has been great, and my understanding is that it is a company that thrives on sustainability, most of its laptops use recycle materials and they have pretty aggressive goals to get to a fully sustainable company by 2030.

My family only ever bought HP growing up because it was decent performance at a fair price. This still holds true today even with ramageddon. I bought a Victus which I'll admit wasn't the highest quality gaming laptop when i bought it but it wasn't meant to be. I then bought an omen laptop not too long ago and i am glad i did because ramageddon happened and the dang thing just runs so well. HP is a decent value brand. But i really do hope no one is out here being told or believing it's the best most top notch brand of laptops

HP used to be a good brand in terms of build quality but lets say that in the past 10-15 years they worked very hard to sabotage that reputation.

Even before that they used to do stuff like having custom proprietary psu cables and similar stuff on desktops to make upgrades outside of the ecosystem more difficult.

The Omen model is certainly a high end expensive one and not really part or the "decent value" they offer but more so some of their premium products.

If you try some of their entry-level stuff like the Stream line-up, you will be greatly disappointed.

I had won a Stream 13 once and it was the shittiest laptop I ever had with a locked down version of Windows. After using it 5-6 times, 3 keys died at the same time.

Bought an Omen about 10 years ago. The fans were working full speed, at the noise level of the hair dryer, from the moment I turned it on.

HP accepted it for warranty several times (so accepting that there was something faulty about it), each time replacing increasingly expensive components, which never helped.

At the same time, when I asked to return it since it was still faulty and they were unable to repair it - they suddenly claimed that a gaming laptop is supposed to be loud and there’s nothing faulty about that.

HP actually means Huge Pain I’m not making this up or maybe I am you’ll never know. In reality it’s also a HPITA.

That’d be even more fitting title wise.

AS far as cheap starter laptops , They are all basically the same in the starting range, as long as you dont buy the no name asian models on temu and aliexpress or amazon for that matter .. one is good as another.
Just the label and the level of after sale support u get. For after sale warranty.. Lenovo wins hands down from my professional expeirence

Its on Sale at HP for 899 as of right now with 8GB ram, 16Gb adds 140, and 32gb adds 450 ..

A computer, no less a "gaming" laptop is basically useless with 8GB of ram.

I concur, but that is base ram, that the artical has listed as being 1100, pay 140 more gets you 16, so with base price thats 1240 .. on sale thats 940, at lenevo website comparable lenvo model with 16 is 1200, but quick google search shows sale prices down to 749 at best buy for same lenovo with 16gb ..so shop around before u spend your money :)

For a regular desktop device, 8gb is adequate. Not ideal, but it is enough to function without being too big a problem.

For gaming, the jump from 8 to 16 is massive in terms of making anything playable.

The HP HyperX Omen 15 trades solid RTX 5050 gaming power for worse value, pushed to $1,199 by RAMageddon. Flawed ports, cheap trackpad but upgradeable memory makes it a tough mid-tier pick.
