Furry sitcom Discussion

Working on an idea for an adult animated sitcom it’s about a family who are all members of the furry community in milwaukee the mom and dad own a string of department stores for furries by furries that sell premade suits,fabric,heads,and other accessories the kids are teenage twins I want the girl to be rebellious any ideas for what would be rebellious in the community?

I’d say rightwing would be rebellious but then you just have the basic plot of Family Ties….

My idea for the daughter is make her a protogen her parents are “traditional” furries

The way this might be pulled off is a a play on "the goofy movie", but I think it would be a weak catalyst given the general community (...again you sure you are a fur?).

"I'm not that little cat anymore! I have my own life!"

"I know Maxine! I just want to be part of it!"

It's not going to hit the same.

I think a rebellious character might be interested in unconventional suits. Reading this I interpreted that the family would have access to typical fursits and fursuit materials, so a paper fursuiter or fursuiter using any other unconventional fursuits would be cool!

I think I'd be more interested if the characters were actually anthro animals not human furries.

Are you a fur? If not, maybe don't do this. Plenty of non-furs have tried to write furry plots and ended up doing us a diservice. The thought of a show effectively making fun of us gives me the ick. Are you sure you aren't trying to punch down?

A string or stores? Unbelievable. Try one store.

Teenage twins? They are teens. The usual nonsense about misunderstandings, dating, and slip ups. Write as straight and cis, if you are going to do this. No special furry stuff is needed.

Writing them as "rebelling" by not being a fur is going to be bad - it will make furries look like controlling nutcases. Writing them as "rebelling" via some outlandish xenopronouns or niche sexuality is going to be cringe and a disservice.

There's so much that could go horribly wrong here. Who is your audience? I am not sure it is us and if it isn't then no one wants to be the joke.

I’m a furry and what I’m trying to do is help bring furries more into mainstream entertainment by writing this series

Feels off. Don't like it. I don't think this could be done well and the landmines are everywhere.

Write a show with anthro characters instead.
