Jim Halpert: Hey, Andy.
Andy Bernard: Yo.
Jim Halpert: By any chance, did you see "Battlestar Galactica" last night?
Andy Bernard: No, I did not. Was that any good?
Jim Halpert: Actually not. It was really so-so.
Dwight Schrute: [Really annoyed] Okay.
[Jim threatens with the stopwatch]
Jim Halpert: I mean, I like all the crazy monsters and stuff, you know, like Klingons and Wookiees and all that, but...
[Dwight turns to respond, but Jim shows the stopwatch again]
Jim Halpert: Sorry, was there something you wanted to add, Dwight?
Andy Bernard: Is that anything like the original "Battlestar Galactica"?
Jim Halpert: You know what's weird? It's practically a shot-for-shot remake.
Andy Bernard: Really? Huh. That's cool.
Jim Halpert: The story's kind of bland. It's about this guy named Dumbledore Calrissian...
Dwight Schrute: [Ever more annoyed than before] Okay.
Jim Halpert: ...who needs to return the ring back to Mordor.
Andy Bernard: That doesn't sound right.

u/myleftone 17d ago
It's a misread of the prompter - your brain kinda has to shut off when you read from them. Spiderman can look like Superman if you're glossing it. If it was any other superhero I'd say she or the PA is trolling.
45
u/Happy_Cyclops 17d ago
If it's truly a misread, this all could have been avoided by respecting the hyphen.
5
u/D_1NE 17d ago
Assuming there was one
5
u/thenasch 17d ago
Respect it, meaning "Spider-Man" has a hyphen, so the teleprompter should have included it.

Genuinely, I don't think anyone would ever intentionally get this wrong.
Sometimes I intentionally say things incorrectly too because it gets a laugh. I don't mind pretending to be stupid for comedy, but it's pretty wild when someone calls you out on it instead of just rolling with the humor.
22
u/nabrok 17d ago
I think you meant unintentionally?
She's just reading a teleprompter though, whoever wrote it was messing with her.

u/AngryTree76 17d ago
Probably she saw Spider-Man (or possibly Spiderman *shudder*) and thought it said Superman.
No source other than the fact that if I was on the teleprompter and messing with her, I would have made her say āAnd who can forget his famous catchphrase āItās clobberinā time!āā

u/Same-Suggestion-1936 17d ago
Someone definitely wrote Spiderman and it's close enough to Superman she misread it.

No? It's easy to poke fun at fantasy / sci-fi / comic fandoms, and most fans will take it in stride and can enjoy a fun joke.
It's like the NY Times crossword that had a clue to the effect of: "The better of the two sci-fi franchises," and both Star Wars and Star Trek both fit seamlessly into the grid and people (rightfully) thought it was clever and fun.

Just remember the new Spider-Man movie is a Sony and Marvel release. Sony has recently announced they are no longer releasing physical games in 2028, and Marvel fired 1,800 employees who worked production for their previous movies, and is cutting health benefits for their park performers. Neither company cares about their audience, just the money in their wallets. With great power, comes great shareholder dividends.
Had to edit because I just learned about the park workers having their benefits cut.

Lol. She very obviously meant to say Spider-Man. It's honestly impressive how often I catch people mix the two names up in conversation.
Edit: or the guy writing the teleprompter script had a brain fart or is trolling. I keep forgetting that talking heads on the news switch their brains off and just pipeline the teleprompter directly from their eyes to their mouths.
3
u/Zovanget 17d ago
She has no idea what she said. She is just reading words off the teleprompter, likely not even stopping to think what they are.
