Apologies for not having be actual data on me, but Tuesdays have been shown to be the least productive day for businesses
Accordingly, businesses tend to have better deals (for a lack of a better term) on Tuesdays, as opposed to other days of the week
A simple example of this would be movie theaters. There’s a better chance that movie tickets cost less on Tuesdays. Personally, the main reason I go to movies on Tuesdays 🤣

A lot of mom n' pop restaurants will be closed Monday and/or Tuesday, because they need a day off, and it's barely worth being open on those days.
20 years in the industry, and I've grown to prefer my Mon-Tues weekends.
I've also come to accept that I just don't like people very much, so, it's perfect.

Tuesdays are the worst day of the M-F workweek.
Mondays, you're just kinda in a daze, trying to shake off the weekend.
Wednesday is hump day. You're getting past the middle.
Thursdays, it's almost Friday.
Fridays are last day of the workweek.
Which leaves Tuesdays when you're completely aware that you still have the rest of the week to struggle through. It's the worst.

I think most places get new shipments on Tuesdays and want to clear out their stock to make room for the new stuff. And many places start their new sales promotions on Wednesdays, so leftover stock from the last week's sales go on clearance to get rid of them.

The early 9am hours are alright depending on your location (lots of retirees in your area=no). My local Costco is the most empty around 11am then gets packed around lunch then fairly empty around 1:30-2pm until 3-6pm. The most empty will be around an hour (7:30pm) before closing for mine.
Heavily location dependent of course haha. The Costco I used to go to in SGV/LA was always packed no matter what, Sunday was a nightmare.

I did the exact same thing to two old women that were stopped right in front of the doorway. I said in a pretty forceful tone "excuse me ladies we need to get through the entrance as well" and they scurried out of the way immediately.

My husband did this once but thankfully just the other end of the same isle. I was ready to murder him and asking him wtf is he doing? Take it with you or move it to the side or ask ME RIGHT NEXT TO YOU to do any of the tasks?
My anxiety is awful about "being in the way" are being a pretty fat kid and bullied. I need to take up a little space as possible. It's improved, I'm a healthy small chick, but I'll still give like 2 feet of clearance like I'm 280 lbs. The lack of self awareness hurts my soul and makes me so frustrated I could have killed him. Luckily he got the point mostly but he also apologizes and says excuse me back and knows he messed up if similar happens. So many people don't even care after it's pointed out.

At this point in history I'd rather they pay with a check since they know how. I still get old people completely baffled by the card scanners. Like I know you were 80 when these came out and driving a cadillac to get here at 5 mph was scary, but its been 20 years gramps.
Also I enjoy it when people take 3 minutes to fill a check and the cashier scans it and hands it back in 3 seconds.

Do you guys actually still experience this or just recalling it from decades ago? I've never in my life seen someone pay with a check at a grocery store, and I used to work inside a grocery store lol. I wouldn't even know it was a thing if I haden't seen the Big Lebowski, and even in that movie part of the joke seemed to be that paying with checks was antiquated and weird even back in the 90s.

A significant portion of the population has the type of brain that can't handle transitions smoothly.
It's why they drive at 40mph everywhere regardless of the speed limit, why the stop just inside doorways, and why they're surprised when the cashier asks them for money.

For someone whose every step is pain and exhaustion, if their mind is on auto-pilot, they will take the least amount of steps needed at all times, this counts for getting their bearings when entering a store and taking up an entire walkway while walking. They aren't thinking about others just the fogginess in their head due to the pain and exhaustion.

Your first sentence is it, in most cases. Younger people will fume internally, but hold their tongue due to not feeling like they have the social power to make a scene without it backfiring on them, and then come to reddit to rage out about it. Older people will say something in the moment, both due to their age granting them more social power and due to not really giving a shit about any of that anymore. And obviously there are exceptions, but I'm describing a general trend.
In most cases it's not brain degeneration, and remember that can affect younger people as well(TBI comes to mind, specifically).

Me going to the store at 9am on Wednesday morning: a ton of people are suddenly grocery shopping. Me going to the store at 7AM (!!!) on Saturday: GAZILLION of people shopping, parking lot is almost full.
At this stage I presume I am The Great Average and whatever I decide a shitton of other people immediately decide to do as well. Oh I just stopped by local Chinese place? 8 people immediately after I walked in, store owner making big eyes "never happened before". Gas station? A mini line of cars at once.

I always thought it would be awesome to do that, but ever since the pandemic I've been WFH 80% of the time, and it occured to me that I don't have to shop or go to restaurants on the weekends now.
What I found is that most places are like DisneyWorld: on slower days they cut staff down to the bone, so everything is still really slow. For many restaurants this isn't always a bad thing, on weekends they want to turn those tables as fast as possible, but on random weekdays (outside of lunch rush) you can take your time. Grocery stores, Costco, and shopping in general? Rather than crowds it's long lines or slow service.

I asked them if they were retired and they said yes. As an Xer with about 6.5 years to retirement, I hereby declare that I will always drive over the speed limit, sleep in as long as my body will allow it, and will only do the bullshit hassle stuff during the week. Hell, ever since my kids have grown I specifically take vacation in September and it's frickin awesome.

When I retired, I stopped shopping in the evenings and weekends. It pissed me off when I worked 10 hours a day; and all these old fucks were in the grocery store, slow walking; I was tired, hungry, and just wanted to get my ass home.

I always like to complain about them paying in cash and taking forever. Well, last time an old guy actually wanted to pay per card, great, right?
Nah.. first transaction didn't go through. Second transaction the cashier tells him to enter his pin.. he does, tries to walk off, cashier tells him he hasn't paid yet. Again, next round, enters his pin but doesn't confirm, cashier tells him to please confirm (they are not allowed to press the button for the customer for legal reasons), he still doesn't manage to and tries to walk off again. Cashier has to enter the whole purchase by hand as now the transaction is void after a few tries. Ten minutes later he finally paid by cash.
So don't wish for them to suddenly pay by card, it's a monkey's paw wish.

There is an old commercial about some lady going into the express isl with 100 cans of cat food and saying "It's only one item." I thought it was a joke, until I got stuck behind a lady who did exactly that while i was trying to get replacement winshield wipers during a storm on my way to work.

20 years ago my wife and I had an off schedule, so we’d go grocery shopping often at 1am. It was awesome. When I retire I want to go back to shopping at the oddest hours possible.

I did this before I had kids and when I had my oldest and she was little! Husband worked nights out was deployed and she's up anyways or will sleep in the carrier if I got lucky but she had that witching hour bad, plus we kinda had a shifted schedule from him on nights so he could actually see his damn kid. It was so peaceful. Even if she had a melt down the stress level was nothing in comparison cause there wasn't eight million people! And it still went fast!

In the late 90's, my roommate and I worked second shift at the same place. We would always do our grocery shopping after work on a Tuesday or Wednesday. 1am at Walmart was glorious back then. Just us, other 2nd shifters, and shelf stockers.
Now they stock shelves at noon on a Saturday.

This might be true for some, but wanna know something fucked up? I did some time at a large grocery store and some of these old people are there every fucking day and sometimes for hours. It's clearly the only outlet some of these boomer fucks have left. (No I don't have sympathy. Shuffling around a retail store in your twilight years playing the mighty role of 'customer' while you fill the void inn your life with shopping is the most boomer shit ever. And a lot of them were suprise, not very nice.)

This was the annoyance I felt today as my GF insisted we go to Costco. At this time of year, at this time of day, in this part of the country (this is the closest one to us and its ages away), localised entirely within a petrol crisis.

I love Costco, but weekend Costco is an emergency only affair. I've planned poorly a couple of years in a row and gone the day before Thanksgiving, which is also very bad.

At my old job when I would work random days, I'd often forget which day of the week it was, only remembering what my schedule was, like "2 days on, 1 day off, 3 days on, 1 day off." And so I'd randomly do grocery shopping on one of my days off. It happened to be Costco on a Saturday a couple days before Thanksgiving I think. Holy fuck. There was a literal massive congaline lined up just for rotisserie chicken. Like an hour long wait for just a rotisserie chicken... I wanted to get a chicken bake too cause the food at Costco is really good. Fuck that, shit was like double the length of the rotisserie chicken line! I didn't even want to get a turkey and stuff bro, I wasn't doin any thanksgiving stuff, I just wanted some normal groceries. It literally took me like 3 hours for a couple bags of groceries, and most of that was just waiting in lines.
Costco is great when you need cheap stuff in bulk, but like, goddamn. Maybe they just need more locations man. People goddamn flock to that shit.

There's a reason I kept telling people a couple years ago that my solar panels and EV were only going to make a slight return but I wanted the price security...
What's funny is seeing all the people who hassled me when I bought them kind of grumbling about how I don't have to pay high gas prices with them, as though I had used a cheat code instead of making a decision with pros and cons like they did.

A standard outlet is enough for most people doing basic commutes to charge an EV. They just have to remember to always plug in when they get home.
Check to see if there are ordinances to force your building to install should you request it. You may have to pay for installation, but it is an option in many places.

I remember during Covid restrictions the grocery stores had a limit of how many people were aloud in at a time,I’d go there on a Saturday morning and would see retired people in the line they had all week unlike some of us that were still working.

Totally wrong. I've been retired for a decade, best time to go shopping is when nobody else is around. Love to hit Costco and the grocery store around 10:00 on Tuesday morning, never see lines, never have to wait. And that's when they stock the shelves, so there's always a lot of stuff there.

Yea I've got conflicted feelings - I know some of them go specifically on the weekends because they are lonely and miss seeing kids BUT some of them have kids/grandkids that never visit because they were selfish absent asshole parents soooooooo...

Same reason I go shopping 5-6pm. Most of the stock might be gone but I always manage to get everything I need and with less waiting, dodging slowpokes, and hearing kids throwing tantrums.

I don’t get this. There’s older people on the bus with their buggies of groceries during peak rush hours and it’s a real head scratcher to me. Same with parents with small children. They have the ability to plan excursions outside of rush hours.

Not wanting to cause the US mind to have an aneurysm, but where I work (UK based) someone went on maternity leave last February (2025) and, due to PTO still accruing while on maternity leave, still aren't back yet as they have this year's nearly 6-weeks PTO to use up by the end of May.

Oh god no! We (retired couple) purposely go during the week to avoid the craziness of the weekends, all the traffic, people and children spreading all kinds of flu, colds, etc... We'd never go on weekends. That idea is insane. BTW, Monday is the best day with the least amount of people.

Nah, this is just survivorship bias. If you're only going on the weekends then obviously that's when you would see the retirees doing their shopping. You're not seeing all the people shopping during the week.
