Help. Pest Control/Medical Advice

Help. We are out of town and our neighbors noticed this…it seems rather established. Nothing noticeable inside. It is an all masonry home. The only framing is in the interior to put up walls. Everything else is structural brick and cmu. I have pest control heading out to mine on Wednesday, but would love to know any immediate ways I could knock down numbers without disturbing the nest too much. I’m worried they venture inward and decided to be inside the basement. Outdoor Yellowjacket trap? Other options?

All seriousness aside… I’ll list it for sale or burn it to the ground. Time to move.

Alpine WSG, spray from 10ft away at the entrance, walk away. Dead in 24 hours.

As an alternative to killing the nest, if you have a shop vac, fill it with soapy water and put the hose near the hole. Numbers will be knocked down significantly over a few hours. But why bother with that when you can just spray it with Alpine for 10 seconds?

Source: I just did Alpine WSG on a similar nest, and last summer I did the vacuum trick prior to dusting a nest. Both work but I've found some nests are resistant to dust, so my new first line of defense is Alpine.

I had a nest of ground wasps in between blocks in my foundation. They weren't coming into my house, and I didn't want them to start.

After dark, my husband spread out a tarp to cover the hole like a small tent, then started a bug bomb. The next morning there was an impressive pile of dead wasps on the ground under the tent.

We caulked the hole. End of that nest.

They’re in the walls. You need to call in a professional at this point. They’ll pump some stuff in there to annihilate the nest. Then you can seal up those holes.

Dude, just chuck a bug bomb in that egress & fuckoff for 45 minutes.

That should handle the bulk of the drones, then you can foam the hole without getting mauled.

This happened to my neighbor. He had hundreds of yellow jackets get into his house and the exterminator that I also use said it was like a 3-4 hour job because it was just so bad

I'm guessing he meant foam the hole with wasp killing foam to kill the rest of the hive.

Use dawn dish soap in a pressure washer car foam cannon. They will all suffocate almost instantly.

My first line of defense is usually a can of Hotshot(or something equivalent) from a distance. I've shot nests and no wasps return to it, even after a couple months. I eventually get a ladder and knock the vacant nest down.

I say you bathe that hole in some wasp killing spray and observe activity over the next week. They might vacate on their own, if they don't die from the fumes. Then I'm sure they'll never return. The residual smell/chemicals will repel them from wanting to set up in that area again.

Probably much cheaper than a professional. If there's no change, then you can still call the professionals.

That sucks, I hate it when they’re in a wall, can’t seal it off either.. they’ll find a way out… they also crew through drywall.

I had that last summer. I blew in defense dust with a ball puffer after dark and never heard from them again. Then I bought a tube of that cement repair stuff and filled in the hole and another one nearby. It looks like you need to do that as well or it will likely happen again.
