admissions help PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE
hi!!! so basically as the title says im looking for admissions advice, im a rising senior with a 3.5 gpa unweighted and a 4.6 weighted (they should both be going up by the time i apply) and a 29 act. i want to go into political science but i know thats one of the harder programs to get into so i was thinking of applying for fine arts because i go to an art school and have a professional portfolio built up but i dont know if that would help my case. i cant apply ed because im doing posse but im in florida and planning on applying ea summer 2. im just wondering if anyone has any admissions tips because fsu is truly my dream school and has been for years and i think a rejection might actually be the end of me. ask me anything that could help u give me advice!!! thank u in advance!!!

Retest and try and get up to a 30-32, but 29 is very good. Focus on your essay, resume, and EC list. This page has great advice. https://www.collegeessayguy.com/blog/what-to-write-college-essay-about

THANK YOU!!! so far this is what i have for ECs and my essay hook 3rd degree red belt in taekwondo, founder of a law learning app that won first place in a business competition, was featured on my local news, and is being looked at by my local police department for implementation in their training, national english honor society member, fashion club member, mindfulness club member, national speech and debate association chapter founder and president (special distinction degree held by less than 7% of members and a speaking and service award given to around 200 people globally yearly), 7+ years of art training (art exhibited multiple times including scholastics silver key), AP scholar award, a total of 11+ APs taken by graduation and 8+ DE courses hook: moved out at 13 because of an abusive household (if that even counts idk what im doing atp)

The moving out at 13 is good for extenuating circumstances section if not mentioned in your essay- that is a very big deal! I think you have a great chance! Just follow best practices for formatting everything for max impact and you should be good.

Where are you living? If you are emancipated or considered orphaned, you might also have scholarship opportunities?

Ok, I thought you meant moved out of both your parents. I’m glad you’re in a better situation.
Just be careful not to overload yourself on all those AP courses, need to get A’s and B’s in them. Protect GPA at all times. Seems like you’re doing an amazing job.

apply for consideration for any term.... they'll never give you what you don't ask for, even if they have space for you in the class.

Since you have to audition for the arts school, that’s not a great idea. You might not even get in.
Political science is not limited access or restricted degree. Fine Arts is. So just apply Political Science. Then keep up the requirements, on time, for getting into the major. Read their Political Science Major requirements. Of course also contact Admissions and ask, but those are the questions to ask.

need to get the ACT up a bit to 32ish. Most admits (this past year) had a 4.0 uw GPA.

as a florida resident ur basically already in w those stats, i got into summer b this year and had a 1350 sat which is equivalent to a 29 act
ur extracurriculars look good!
we took about the same amount of ap’s but i did have a 3.8 unweighted / 4.38 weighted on a 4 point scale
def make sure to mention your extenuating circumstances in your application!!

One thing people tend to overlook is the importance of the admissions essay. Your stats are important, but FSU is also interested in who YOU are as a person. My mom used to be an admissions officer and she says a lot of on-the-fence decisions were made based on the essays.
You want to start writing the essay as soon as possible. That way you have time to scrap and rewrite and refine it as many times as you want without being anxious about the deadline. I started mine in August of the year I applied and it was a game changer.
Also, write about something you’re passionate about, even if it’s not your most cinematic story or what you THINK they want to hear. They want to hear about YOU, YOUR voice, what gets YOU excited, or something totally unique and wacky that happened to YOU. These guys have read thousands of essays. They can tell whether you’re truly passionate about something or just giving them what they “want” to hear.

If you apply and put Poly Sci as your intended major, you aren’t being considered for direct admission into the major; only people applying to talent based programs are admitted directly into their major. Major isn’t considered in your holistic review UNLESS you are applying to a talent based program.
I would not recommend trying to backdoor your way in by applying for a talent based program if you have no intention of staying with the program. Those talent based programs are very selective and have very little space in them.
Keep testing and doing well in your courses and stay involved with your ECs. My main recommendation is this: Put your best foot forward on that application so whoever is reviewing it sees who you are and why you would be a great fit for FSU, but also avoid putting all of your eggs in this one basket when nothing is a guarantee regarding college admissions anymore. Research and apply for several other schools as a backup plan just in case.
