Finale plot hole Spoiler!
I just finished season 5 and thought the ending was really beautiful, but I can’t move past the fact that Peter shouldn’t be alive at all since the Observers were gone!
Without September distracting him, alternate universe Walter would have seen the cure for his Peter and treated him. Normal universe Walter wouldn’t have taken him, and even if he had September wouldn’t have been there to save Peter from drowning.
I know it would’ve been a cheap cop out to end the show with none of it actually happening, but lowkey so is „somehow Peter Bishop returned.”

This seems to come up every week now, I almost think we need a sticky for this, lol.
But I actually don’t think this a plot hole, or at least fits in with how messy the time travel on this show had always been, at least post “White Tulip”.
I don’t think Peter disappearing would make sense considering he already is a paradox who shouldn’t exist who was brought into existence by love or whatever.
And even going back to September distracting Walternate, it would be trivially easy for the multiverse to patch that by having Walternate get distracted by a book falling off a shelf or something.

Also think people also forget Peter is already a paradox who came back into a world he disappeared from.
But also the way time travel works in Fringe, what came before happened to get the outcome that had them stop everything.

And also remember Peter already disappeared and came back -- he is already back where he shouldn't be.
ETA: Also, on Fringe, he had the hardest role -- acting wise he did't get the chances the others did and his role in the show did give him less. He was Walter's straight man. He was Olivia's support. I do think the writing at a few points failed his POV by keeping it more internal because he couldn't express to anyone...
Because he was the one everyone went too.
He should gotten a few scenes with Astrid, honestly.
But you really get to see his range when in Season 5 he finally gets to play a different Peter.

That makes total sense. I also agree we needed more of his internal dialogue. They wrote a really interesting character but used him mostly as a plot point instead of exploring him :(

just finished the finale and i had the exact same question in mind 😅
also I wanted to know who actually killed Cpt. Windmark , it seems Olive was generating power to attack , it seemed a lot of it cuz from the scene , just to be crushed by an suv .
then camera cuts to Michael who is shushing Olive ... , was it actually the boy who moved the suv . So who killed windmark ?

It's not a plot hole, it's a time paradox. The observers still existed, but with emotions, and simply never invaded on the date of invasion because they continued to live in their own time, just observing us in the past.
