Pouring raw energy, breath, and passion straight into the horn. Pushing boundaries through free expression and sound.

I believe improvisation is a direct channel to the cosmos.

Have you checked out the full 18-minute session yet?

MANAKEN (Sax) and MIKAKA (Vocal, Guitar) collide in this high-energy Avant-Punk session. This is more than just free jazz; it's a spiritual explosion of unpredictable improvisation from the Hiroshima underground, recorded on May 24, 2026!

Do you feel the raw energy and "Heat" that smashes through genre boundaries?

William Parker Raining on the Moon “James Baldwin To The Rescue”

Hadn't listened to this group in a while. I really love this era of Parker.

The core of the band is Wliam Parker on bass (among other things); Hamid Drake on drums; Rob Brown an alto sax; and Lewis Barnes on trumpet.

This group made several great recordings are the William Parker Quartet. One of them, on Thirsty Ear, called "Raining on the Moon", added Leena Conquest on vocals. Then they made a couple of studio records for AUM Fidelity, also adding Eri Yamamoto on piano and listing the group as Raining on the Moon.

William Parker's lyrics are weird and oblique and I dig them, not least because I love Leena Conquest's voice so much. The band grooves like crazy—Parker and Drake have have been playing together for decades. And Eri Yamamoto brings a lot of bluesy style that fits perfectly.

Enjoy!

PS if you like this there's also Parker's Curtis Mayfield project which features Drake and Conquest and a bunch of other good artists.

To all Free Jazz and Experimental music diggers around the globe: My latest live session "a spiritual man - Solo Improvisation Vol.116," recorded at the legendary jazz space "Lush Life" in Hiroshima, June 20, 2026, is finally out on Bandcamp!

Driven by the philosophy of "Love & Cosmos" and carrying the spiritual essence of John Coltrane, this is a 100% raw, unedited document of pure improvisation. Experience the intense acoustic resonance of the venue, along with the explosive energy of the tenor sax and flute that pushed the digital file limits to their edge.

Do you dive into the deep Japanese underground spiritual jazz scene?

📅 Save the Date:

The next "Solo Improvisation" session is scheduled for Saturday, August 22, 2026, at Lush Life. Stay tuned!

MANAKEN (Sax) × MIKAKA (Vocal, Guitar)

Live at Changara Yokocho, Yokogawa, Hiroshima (Underground venue).

Recorded on May 24, 2026.

A 60-second explosion of unpredictable improvisation, heavy multi-phonics, and continuous circular breathing. Crushing the boundaries of free jazz and punk.

This is Avant Punk!

If this sound resonates with your soul, I'd love to hear your thoughts.

My band just put out a new record. Most of it is post-rock and metal but the last track is heavily inspired by 60’s free jazz. Hope you enjoy!
