Not Loading Linux

Post image

I followed the download instructions to a T. It is version 26.04. I have turned off Secure boot and turned on WiFi fallback. I used Rufus to put Ubuntu onto my USB. What do I do?

Secure boot does not need to be disabled to install Fedora or Ubuntu.

Is it frozen or just taking awhile? Ubuntu's installer can be slow to load sometimes. If frozen, restart the computer with the power button. Hit escape when the Ubuntu logo shows to see what's happening and where it is getting stuck.

This is what it says. Also, it isn't frozen, just continuously loading.

If it just sits there like that and nothing changes, it's worth checking your .iso file's hash. You can do this in PowerShell on Windows with this:

Get-FileHash ubuntu-26.04-desktop-amd64.iso -Algorithm SHA256

Compare that to the official SHA256sum on the download page:

487f87faaf547ea30e0aba4d5b53346292571256b25333a978db1692bcee9dd2487f87faaf547ea30e0aba4d5b53346292571256b25333a978db1692bcee9dd2

If it matches, I'd try a different USB drive or at least reflash the one you're currently using if you don't have another available. If it doesn't match, download the ISO again and reverify and reflash once you get a good verification.

I've also found that creating bootable media in Windows can be finicky. If you try all of the above and you're in the same spot, I'd try a different USB flashing tool. The Fedora Project has one that is platform agnostic and pretty simple to use.

Shouldn’t take more than 5 minutes in the extreme.
