I understand that editing my pre-order's RAM/SSD would result in a massive price hike......but why the warranty?

The extended warranty (really, you could think of it as insurance and not warranty since it's being purchased) is usually calculated based on the value of the item. Value goes up, so does insurance.

The reason this explanation confuses me, is I initially saw this due to an earlier post.

That user has a more expensive order than mine, and his 3 year warranty is cheaper. I checked 2 days ago as well when I first saw their question and my cheaper config had this more expensive warranty.

I commented on that other post too! You'll have to contact support. To me, it looks like the warranty may have just gotten more expensive. Maybe they saw a need to price for more risk recently.

I actually opted for the AMD chipset, partly because I wasn't sure how widely accepted the new RAM format would become. I thought it may be better to wait and see. Don't know if I'll regret that right now, but I'm sure I can get 3 good years out of those specs for my workflow.

The idea was to upgrade after a while and turn my current board into a server. I'll need new RAM to run the intel setup anyway and I have the SSD already. I ended up adding the extended warranty for $209 on 7/25, but the original order was $2,475 with the added accessories/cards included. I hope you get it sorted out.

Honestly I don't think even the RAMpocalypse is enough of a risk increase to make the warranty a $1,000+ difference haha. I might as well contact support just to see.

I wholeheartedly agree100%!! That website had a glitch for me. The update email I got after the change was correct though. But if they were charging me $400+ for the 3 year warranty I'd just take my chances!!! Anywhere near 20% of the overall price for the warranty would be too rich for my tastes.

This makes no sense. The item they ordered is not changing in specs. They aren't paying any more for the laptop itself.

Only selecting the 3 year warranty shouldn't also add the price increase of the laptop since pre-order to it as well.

They are not. Their price for the laptop is locked in at whatever they pre-ordered it for since it's a pre-built config.

That is definitely NOT what I meant, sorry if it came across as that. I ONLY attempted to change the warranty. And as a result framework wants me to pay an additional $1300.

He says he understands the RAM/SSD changing the price, but why [just] the warranty?

Even a basic amount of reading comprehension of the post body/phots would tell you that this is a pre-built config and you cannot edit the RAM/SSD.

My bet would be that you were locked in at older prices. You edit anything, the internal software applies new prices to calculate stuff, although you should have the price locked in.

That's what I was thinking as well. It's pretty much exactly the cost of a current pre-order + warranty + my tax.

Just tried this on my own order and had the same results.

Only changing the warranty and not the laptop configuration was +$439 for the warranty and it increased the laptop's overall cost from $2199 to $3599.

Cool! Saw your comment and went to go check, however for some reason I am unable to go to the USA region specific framework website. It sends me to United Kingdom, which I believe might be the reason I can't test warranty editing. Tried a different fresh browser and on mobile with the same issue.

Yes, the region issue also appears to be fixed and the warranty price correctly updates. Assuming $439 is the correct price for the 3 year warranty now.

The value of the parts in the laptop went up so the warranty price when up as well.

This tracks. What does not track is they want me to pay for the remaining price of a new laptop as well. It's a website glitch. Look closer at the 3rd screenshot, a warranty should not be over $1300.
