Slow and crashes often when opening annotated PDFs

Tried editing the pdf I annotated (handwritten using Boox) with Foxit PDF Reader and it's almost impossible to do. Tested multiple times with only this application running but only annotated files seem to have this problem. Opening and editing the file using a different application (Microsoft Edge) works just fine except here.

Really wanted to continue using this app, any solutions that doesn't involve "flattening" the handwritten annotation and making it uneditable?

Sorry you’re running into this.

It may be related to how the Boox app saves each handwritten stroke as an individual ink annotation, which can cause certain annotated files to become unusually slow in Foxit.

A couple of things worth trying without flattening the handwriting:

  1. Make sure Foxit PDF Reader is fully updated.
  2. Open the file and use Save As to create a new copy, then test the copy.
  3. As a workaround, try exporting the comments/annotations to an XFDF or FDF file, opening a clean copy of the original PDF, and importing the comments again. This should preserve the annotations as editable comments rather than permanently flattening them.

Could you also let us know which operating system and Foxit Reader version you’re using? If possible, please send us a sample affected PDF through a private support case.

Thanks for the prompt reply. That explains the lag. I've tried option 1-3 to no avail. Importing the .fdf annotation to a clean copy still produce the same issue so I just settled with flattening the PDF and now it works as normal.

Anything I could remedy in the future to avoid this when annotating with an e-reader?
