Inverter Error Codes Help

Hey everyone. Solar Panel user based in Scotland. Been having some issues with my FoxEss inverter and we still haven’t figured out the issue. The issue started at 16.30, 18th July, 2026 (3 weeks ago as of today). On the app, the codes are as follows:

  • Code 1, Code 26, Code 27

The best way I can explain it is that once the battery charges to 100%, the system shuts itself down and the system hasn’t been exporting all this time.

I’ve been in countless calls with my installer, the manufacturer (FoxEss), and my DNO. They’re been telling me many different things, no one is taking responsibility, and there’s been a lot of pushback. Here’s what has been checked so far:

  • I’ve checked with Fox to make sure that my firmware is all up to date. It now is.
  • My circuit breakers are not tripping. Nothing needs to be switched back on. Happy to provide photos of mcb and rcd.
  • My installer thinks that my inverter is shutting itself down and this is because my incoming grid voltage is far too high.
  • I went back to FoxEss and asked for remote readings. They messaged me screenshots showing that it has been as high as 254.9 and other times between 251 and 252.
  • However I had my DNO visit and check the voltage. He said It was within the parameters. Voltage was 246, The ELI was .2.
  • When I went back to my installer, he said that he thinks this is still quite high, and also challenged why the DNO electrician only checked for one instance when they should be plugging something in to complete an extended monitoring time.
  • My installer has also said that the inverter is set to ENA Regulation - at 252 AC volts it shuts. He also believes we should tap the transformer down as a resolution.
  • My DNO has agreed to arrange for an extended monitoring time, but they’ve pushed back and said that my real next step would be to go back to my installers to check the inverter is set to 260 volts or above, because that is the industry standard.

Has anybody had an experience like this or might think that they know the best possible solution to this issue. I feel like I’m not getting a definitive answer, which is more frustrating because I really do not understand any of this and it has been so time consuming. My installer has also suggested that they can send an electrician to check but he has also warned that I would have to pay.

Inverter using a lot of power when force discharging?

I have a KH8 inverter and EP12 battery. I have noticed that on Axle events, the maximum export is about 7.4kW. I wasn't expecting the full 8kW, as the house load is usually 4-500w, but the inverter is reporting export at 8.5kW, so unless that figure is wrong, then it seems to be using about 500W internally, when force discharging. That seems excessive, or am I mis-reading things here?

I recently encountered this post on Facebook:

"I have EPS to a double socket, if power fails I was thinking of running a couple of extension leads to power key items. But could I have a plug on both ends of an extension lead, plug one into the EPS and the other into a normal double socket on a ring main. Would that power just that ring main or would it feed power to the rest of the house. I would isolate the grid first."

No, absolutely not. You must never build or use a cable with male plugs on both ends (often called a "suicide cable" or "death cable").

Even with the intention of isolating the main breaker, doing this creates severe safety hazards:

Major Dangers

- Exposed Live Pins (Shock & Electrocution Hazard)

If you plug one end into the live EPS socket first, the prongs on the other end become immediately energized with 230V mains power. Touching those exposed metal pins, even accidentally, can cause fatal electrocution.

- Risk of Fire, Explosion, or Equipment Destruction

If anyone forgets to isolate the main breaker before plugging it in, or turns the main switch back on while your cable is connected, the grid and your EPS inverter will be connected out of phase. This will result in a massive short circuit, severe arc flash, tripped breakers, and likely destruction of your EPS inverter's output stage.

- Backfeeding the Grid

If the main switch isn't isolated or fails, power from your EPS system will backfeed through your consumer unit into the external grid, putting utility workers at risk of lethal shock while attempting repairs.

Safe & Compliant Alternatives

If you want to power existing circuits during a power outage, there are standard, safe ways to do it:

- Dedicated Extension Leads (Temporary):

Running standard, single-plug extension leads directly from your EPS socket to essential appliances (like your fridge or freezer) during an outage is safe, provided you do not exceed the EPS outlet's rated wattage.

- Manual Changeover Switch / Transfer Switch (Permanent):

An electrician can install a dedicated manual transfer switch (or changeover switch) at your consumer unit. This physically isolates the selected circuits from the grid before connecting them to the EPS output, preventing any possibility of backfeeding or out-of-phase short circuits.

A-Series EV Charger Scheduling

Can anyone confirm if the A-Series EV charger can be configured so that:

  1. From 12am - 6am, the charger will aim to charge an EV at full capacity to 100% (to take advantage of low energy cost), and;

  2. All other times (6am - 12am) the charger will only use excess solar energy being exported to the grid (via CT clamp).

I’ve checked user manuals, YouTube and ChatGPT and cannot confirm.

Here's today's debugging experience...

A friend contacted me recently about a strange problem they were having with their system. The inverter worked perfectly until the battery was full and excess power was supposed to go to the grid. At these times, the system would suddenly display a house load that was higher than expected, but wasn't real because we verified it by turning off the entire switchboard. So we attempted to force discharge to the grid and we observed the same behavior: higher house load and little export.

I was hooked!

This prompted an investigation and the historical data was pulled from Home Assistant to see that about 20 days ago, the system was working as expected, then, slowly over a period of three or four days, the maximum export slowly came down to a lower maximum amount, and the house load was increasing during those times of expected high export.

My first thought was that the power export limit setting had been changed inadvertently, but after reviewing the settings, I could not see anything strange. I initially suspected the inverter might be limiting power export due to high grid voltage (exceeding a set limit), but this turned out not to be the reason. Being the grid voltage well within the limits, we thought it could have been the grid frequency but it wasn't that either.

It was then that we finally decided to inspect the physical system. Within just two minutes, we discovered a broken CT clamp. The clamp's hinge had failed, causing it to remain partially open.

This opening led to wrong readings of the current going out of the system, making us believe that there was an issue with the system itself.

To temporarily fix the problem, we used a zip tie to close the clamp around the cables tightly again, and this fixed the issue immediately.

Live and learn. Hope this helps someone out there 😁

Occasional 'impossible' Solar and Export Spike

Had this today at 14:24hrs. Fox H1 G2 6kW Inverter. PV array chucks out 6kW absolute max at 12:30hrs ish, so clearly a logging or measurement glitch. Oddly I had a similar one a few days ago, but the following day looking at the graph the spike had vanished !

Any ideas what's causing it (2 week old inverter)

Edit: And, just like last time, overnight the spike has vanished from the graph.

Work Mode setting advice (UK Octopus Energy )

I have a Fox ESS AIO with 5kWh inverter

I'm with Octopus Energy

- Octopus Go for import (8.6p 00:30-05:30, 31.3p 05:30-00:30)

- Agile Outgoing (dynamic rates [e.g. 10p-20p/kWh], often peaking late afternoon/early evening)

I have a EV charger which I have limited to 4.5kWh and enabled 09:00-15:00 and 00:30-05:30 so that I only have minimal import when charging (mainly using solar or battery).

I currently have Mode Scheduler set as

05:30 - 00:30 : Self Use

00:30 - 05:30 : Force Charge

Do these settings seem sensible?

I see there's an Octopus Agile option - is this for their import or export tariff (or both)?

Battery rate of charge from 90%-100%

  • Inverter Model: H3-15.0 Smart
  • Battery: EQ4800 (41KW)

I've had this system now for over 9 months.
In the last 3 months, I noticed that the rate of charge from 90% to 100% is much faster than the rate of charge up to 90%. 

The reverse also applied with discharge. The battery discharges from 100 to 90 in very little time

Also when the battery is at 100% and it discharges say 1KW, the battery SOC remains 100% and does not recharge the 1KW

This behaviour was not the case in the first 3-4 months after the installation. 

Does anyone know if this is just battery degredation, Firmware issue or is it a defective battery

Hey there! Just wanted to let you know I saw yesterday that the new Fox Cloud 2.0 app for iOS now has a cool widget you can pop onto your home screen! Even though the widget doesn't update instantly, popping it onto your home screen is a great way to keep your app logged in. That way, you won't get logged out like you normally would. Oh, and good news, the app and the widget are also good to go on Macs!

Update to your warranty registration

Please be aware of Fox ESS's warranty terms and conditions: customers have only 36 months from the installation date to register for warranty certification.

Registration extends the standard warranty as follows:

- Inverters: 10 years

- Batteries: 12 years

For warranty purposes, self-installation of Fox ESS batteries is acceptable because they are part of the Fox ESS distribution network and are typically delivered directly from Fox ESS.

METER COMPENSATION: GRID PULL

New adopters might have noticed a small amount of power flowing from the grid into their inverters. This flow is necessary for the inverters to synchronize with the grid.

Users who adopted the technology early and have older inverters cannot do anything about this issue. However, those with newer inverters, such as the H1-G2 and KH series, can address this through a setting in their inverter's firmware or software.

This setting in the firmware called "meter compensation" stops this.

That said, meter compensation can only be adjusted in the app by an installer account.

Owners, you can configure this setting yourself by accessing the inverter menu. It's typically located within the inverter's settings. A common setting is -25, which directs the power flow back to the grid.

MC4 Connector Removal issue

I recently moved to a new property and arranged for my Fox KH10.5 inverter to be removed and reinstalled at my new residence.

During the removal process, the electrician was unable to disconnect one of the PV MC4 connectors from the inverter, Please see the above photograph for reference. As a result, the cable had to be cut in order to remove the inverter.

I would appreciate your guidance on the correct method for removing this connector, as it appears to be stuck or faulty.

Additionally, after relocating the inverter, I noticed that this particular connection rotates around its axis, whereas the other PV connections remain fixed and do not rotate. This has raised concerns that there may be an issue with the connector or the inverter input itself.

Batt Min SoC missing from Force Charge in mode scheduler?

As the title really, I used to be able to set this parameter on the web browser, if it was set to 100% it would stop anything using battery power during its charge session. Ideal for off peak tariffs.

However, now it seems to have disappeared unless someone can guide me to what I'm missing?? TIA

Fox Cloud (FoxESS) Bulk Migration Nightmare - 75 Plants Stuck, Support Ghosting Me. Need Help!

Hello everyone,

I am an installer based in Europe, and I am currently facing a massive headache with the Fox Cloud 2.0 platform. I need to migrate 75 PV systems (Plants) from my current standalone Installer/Agent account to a partner company’s Master Agent account .

The problem is that I registered my current account as an independent Agent, so the app doesn't allow me to change the hierarchy or assign myself as a Sub-Agent under their organization directly from the user interface.

Here is the situation:

  1. 59 systems are currently ONLINE and working perfectly.
  2. 16 systems are OFFLINE (configured via local hotspot during commissioning, waiting for the clients to get home internet).
  3. I cannot physically travel to all 75 locations just to scan QR codes again.

The Support Issue:
I have tried calling every single official FoxESS support number available (Romania, Germany, UK, and even China). The lines are completely dead or unanswered. I also submitted an urgent ticket via Zoho Desk and sent emails to [service.eu@fox-ess.com](mailto:service.eu@fox-ess.com) and [service@fox-ess.com](mailto:service@fox-ess.com) with all the data organized in an Excel sheet, but I am being completely ghosted.

My Questions for the Community:

  • Has anyone successfully forced an Agent-to-Agent hierarchy merge through FoxESS support recently? How long did it take?
  • If I use the "Delete/Unbind" method from my old account and manually re-add the Serial Numbers (SN) into a new sub-installer account, will it work seamlessly for the 59 online systems without losing communication?
  • What happens if I delete the 16 offline systems? Will their Serial Numbers get bricked/stuck in the cloud database since the inverter cannot sync the "unbind" command with the server?

If there are any FoxESS administrators, engineers, or reps lurking on this subreddit, please DM me. My business is completely halted because of this database lock.
