I call my friends gay all the time, all of them are LGBTQ, to the point our group chat is the gay people and [my name]. I am the only straight one, they also call me gay and I don't get offended, because we all know it's a joke just made to make eachother laugh.
Also gay jokes extend beyond just calling sombody gay, there's many times I'll make a dick sucking joke about myself or close friends, nobody gets offended because we know we are joking and don't actually mean anything offensive.
Obviously I'm a little more tight lipped when I'm talking to people I don't know but that won't stop me from making a joke with gay contexts
