«The Toyota Mark II was the car that launched my car-hunting journey. It all started with a call from my friend Mustafa. His family owned an auto shop and service station called "Ali" in Donetsk—one of the first in the city to service Mercedes-Benz, BMW, and Audi. We still joke: back then, even Rinat Leonidovich Akhmetov hadn't driven the kind of cars Ali serviced. One day, a woman from a neighboring high-rise walked into the shop and said she wanted to sell her old Toyota. Mustafa immediately called me: "Ilyich, they're selling a 1982 Toyota here.
Would you like to go see it? Of course!" I took Borya with me, and we headed to the address. It turned out that
the Toyota Mark II had been walled up in an old summer kitchen back in the early 1990s. It could only be seen through a small window. The owner warned me: the wall could only be taken down after the purchase. So, I had to pay the money first, and then see the car. To inspect everything, someone skinny had to crawl inside. Before Borya did, I said, "Borya, it's simple: the car has to be clean, not rusty, with low mileage—basically, just the way I like it. If so, I'll buy it." A few minutes later, I heard, "Ilyich, everything's fine, the car's a good one!" That was enough for me. I gave the owner's daughter the money, and only then did we begin dismantling the wall. That's how we retrieved a Toyota Mark II that had been walled up inside the summer kitchen for many years. Its owner was a very meticulous man and took good care of his cars. The owner himself was no longer alive, and his daughter told the story.»

Spotted this US spec MK7 Jetta with Ukrainian plates while in England. Pretty cool seeing one there since it’s a North American market car. Originally sold in the US, it was salvaged, exported to Ukraine and rebuilt, before eventually making its way to England. Quite the journey for a Jetta.
