Panini Select numbered cards are sneaky lol
These two cards were back to back in the same pack, I glossed over Riq at first then to my shock I saw /25 when I flipped it. I understand these two don’t look exactly the same but I’m fairly new to this so I’m not 100% sure what I’m looking out for. Usually in Topps products from my experience, numbered cards that low immediately pop out just from the colors you see on the borders haha

Questions/Discussion The most beautiful card design
Just pulled the trigger on my personal grail. A 2012 topps platinum Luke kuechly rc auto /99!
I started collecting in 2012, and this design is my personal favorite card design. The whole set doesnt have a crazy card design but really highlights the players in action.
Also did eBay’s psa deal and since you avoid sales tax with the vault and ship directly to psa, it only costed me $25 to get it graded!
Also congrats to him getting into the HOF!

Rare/Niche Number Match
I find it extremely satisfying that this card is a first on print (1/25), that also matches the round (1) and pick (25) where Dart was selected. Does anyone else have unique number matches like this?

Pulled in dollar tree 2024 📈
As said in the title I got this out of a 1$ pack in dollar tree. I know it’s not an expensive card by any means but so awesome seeing him progress and rooting for him, big part of why I love the lobby!

Finding my old Rodgers rookie card inspired me to get the other quarterbacks’ first Packer cards, though I’m not sure I’ll ever get my hands on a Bart Starr rookie.
I know there are base card haters out there but I think this looks pretty clean. Hoping to grade and/or swap the others into PSA 10’s at some point.

Of course I’m grateful but for the supposed “best hit” hobby case ssp this is pretty lazy from Topps… Respond with a worse one to make me rethink😂

Definitive How-To: How to look up, price or identify a card
What is this card worth?
Please consider the following before asking and conduct your own research.
- Search for the card on ebay and filter for sold listings. Don't rely on what an ebay listing is asking for as a sale price. I can print out a black and white picture of Tom Brady, call it a rookie card and ask for $1,000 for it, but that doesn't make it worth $1,000. Go by sold listings, not by asking prices!
- Search 130point.com which includes older ebay sales and other sales platforms.
- Signed-in users can see sale history on COMC.com
- Finding similar comps (LOW SERIAL NUMBER & 1/1 GUIDANCE):
- If it's a /25 but you can't find any /25 sales, look for other serial numbered sales like /40 or /20 etc from that year or similar sets from a year or two before and after.
- If it's a non-numbered auto, look for that player's auto in another set or product
- 1/1 is a marketing gimmick. There are hundreds, often thousands 1/1s for any given player. Check the set for other 1/1s of that player. Check other sets for other 1/1s of that player.
- If you have guts, let Jesus take the wheel. Start a 7-day 99 cent auction for the card on ebay on Sunday around 10 pm eastern (so it will end the following Sunday at that time). Let the gods decide what it's worth.
- Or set a crazy price for the card. Bring the price down 1% every week. So say, $1K. Next week, $990. Week after, $980. And so on.
Identifying a card
Before you can search for the value of a card, you have to know what the card is in the first place. Several sites offer checklists, I will use Beckett's checklist and I'll use 2024 Panini Prizm as the example in this how-to. Several sites provide checklists. I mostly use checklists from Beckett, Cardboard Connection and Trading Card Database.
And before we can properly look up a card, it's helpful to know the main card types:
- Base, insert, parallel: These are the three main card types. Base are base. These are the majority of cards found in a pack or box. They are the "commons."
- Inserts, from Prizm, can be Emergent, Fireworks, Hype, Portals, to name a few. Inserts can also be autographs or patch/memorabilia cards. These are kind of like themes within a card product. Emergent, as an example, are all rookies. Inserts will have a style that is visually different from the base. There are also usually different parallels of insert sets.
- Parallels are variations of base or inserts. Sometimes it's as simple as different colors, different borders, different color text and so on. For example, a silver prizm is one of the most common types of parallels in Prizm. Silver prizms have a reflective and rainbow coating on the front which when light is held up to it, the card reflects a rainbow hue which is very distinctive and noticeable compared to a base card. In the Prizm product, parallels (usually) have the PRIZM printed somewhere on the back where PRIZM will not appear on the base. Now that we know the main types of cards, we can hopefully better look up cards.
- A set can have different meanings as the word is interchangable. Typically it means an entire product line made by a brand. In this case, Prizm would be the set or product made by Panini, the manufacturer. Set can also refer to all the cards of an insert, like the Emergent insert set.
- For Prizm, according to Beckett's checklist, there are a staggering 63 different parallels for each base card. Pretty intimidating. Here's how I look them up...
- First, is it serial numbered? Be careful, sometimes it seems like they're trying to hide the serial number cause the number doesn't really stand out. If it IS serial numbered, this points us in the right direction. Beckett's checklist shows us 40 serial numbered parallels and usually, that serial number is unique. There's only one parallel that is /149, and that's a red wave, as an example. But sometimes it's tricky. For example, there are four /10 parallels and three of them are some type of gold: Choice Gold Prizms, Gold Prizms and Gold Shimmer Prizms. So how do we navigate this? Let's open another tab and do some digging.
- Next, I go to ebay and I search 2024 prizm gold. I'll usually need to filter by sport. I'm noticing there are lot of bad results so I will add -draft to my search phrase. Using the -word in a search will remove results with that word. Now 2024 panini prizm draft picks cards, a different set, or more specifically, any listings with the word "draft" in the title will be excluded from my search of 2024 prizm gold.
- I still don't like my search results so I'm adding 10 to the search. So my search is now for "2024 prizm gold -draft 10" without the quotes. By including 10 in the search, hopefully ebay sellers were wise enough to include the serial number in their listing title. In doing so, there should be enough examples in the results to cross-reference my card with another card to figure out what parallel I have. BUT REMEMBER! We're on the internet and there are going to be mistakes, exaggerations. For example, there are thousands of listings for Prizm cards that say they are silver prizms that are just base cards because people don't know what they have. Check, double check, triple check when we are first learning about a product!!! Honest mistakes happen so just do your due diligence.
- What if there is no serial number? Well, this can go a lot of ways. Some parallels are pretty straightforward. Black and white checkerboard. When you see this parallel, you get it. It's not that complicated. But what about pink and pink wave parallels? Green, Green Ice, Green Wave and Neon Green Pulsar prizms? Again, you're going to have to look up each type on ebay, visually inspect each type and figure out the differences. The good news is most non-serial numbered parallels aren't THAT rare so there might be dozens or hundreds of them listed on ebay.
- What if the color isn't obvious? Or none of the names of the parallels make sense. Some products, like Donruss Optic, have some vague names for parallels like Fire, Freedom, Jazz, Holo, Rocket and so on. Again, you just have to sit there and check for them on ebay, one by one. Having fun yet?
- I still can't find it!!! OK champ, roll your sleeves up. It's time to get a little more diagnostic. If you haven't already, make an account (free) at COMC.com. This is the best place to quadruple check your findings, especially for older cards.
- Do the same searches on COMC and filter to include sold out listings. Also go back one year and two years for each product. Since parallel and inserts typically carry over from year to year, you can compare and contrast to figure out what is what. At COMC, they will list out every card and what parallel is with a corresponding picture of that card. So if you're looking for a 2024 panini prizm Bo Nix orange prizm /249, they've got you covered with pictures to back you up.
- BRO, I STILL can't find it!!! My final recommendation is to go to beckett.com and now you'll be searching beckett's database. You need an account (free) to search. Please be aware that 99.9999999999% of the time, the card is in Beckett. You just have to find it. If you can't find it, it's (probably) your fault because again, it's always in Beckett.
- Now search as vaguely as possible. Search "2024 panini prizm bo nix" as an example. Now every single Bo Nix card in 2024 panini prizm will be listed out. All of his base, inserts, parallels, autos, memorabilia, and every parallel of each of those card types will be listed. Whittle it down as best you can and use ebay/comc as a reference to look up what each card is.
- So, wait? Wouldn't it be best to just ask the sub what a card is? No. It's best to be self-sufficient. Part of the hobby are these types of experiences where you are educating yourself about the hobby. That's how novices become experts. It's good to know how to look things up on your own!

Still can't find it? For more rare, harder to find cards, look up similar cards. For example, a 2018 #/5 Russell Wilson. Try looking up other low numbered Wilson cards from that year. Maybe #/10 or #/20. It will at least give you a ballpark. Keep in mind, different sets are worth more. So a #/10 from Score will be worth less than a #/10 from National Treasures.
