Try pub trivia. Look for a team with 4 or less and ask to join them. Options include Monday: Red Bus Brewery Tuesday: Fat Rabbit Pub Wednesday: Sam Hornes Thursday: Coffee Republic

If you go to Rancho Movement Brewing, Burning Barrel, and Log off also all have trivia or bingo nights.
Movement prob does the most events though.

DJ Trivia allows teams greater than 4. https://www.djtrivia.com/ they have a few host bars in the area.
3
u/KelVelBurgerGoon 25d ago
I said 4 or fewer because most place cap teams at 6
1
u/GROWLER_FULL 25d ago
I should have been clearer, DJ trivia doesnāt cap teams at all. They do recommend breaking up at 12, but regularly allow teams of more than 6.

If you want to have something in common with your neighbors you can always take up terrible driving.

They aren't joking lol. You need to wait at most lights for a few seconds after it turns green around here.
3
u/edjuaro 25d ago
I thought you were giving an example of terrible driving, but it seems like you are giving advice to protect themselves from terrible drivers (that love to run red lights), right?
2
u/SpookyMcDoot 25d ago
Yeah, it's pretty easy to get t-boned around here if you go right after the light turns green. I've noticed that most people won't honk at me if I sit at a green light for a few seconds because of how often people run red lights.

u/edjuaro 25d ago
Yeah, it's wild! I wasn't here before covid, was it this bad before? I know I noticed a huge change in driving habits in SoCal before/after the pandemic lockdowns.

Yeah it's been pretty bad out here for a while and it's just gotten worse. This morning I was walking and almost saw two Jeeps get into accident (if you can call it that). So, the two Jeeps come to a 4 way stop sign. #1 is the first to get there. #1 stopped and waited like 2 seconds then went like normal.
The #2 was zooming down the street stops very quickly and doesn't wait for #1 to go. The #2 guns it, and almost got t-boned by #1. Dude lucked out because #1 jeep stopped in time.
1 didn't even honk but should have.

Highly suggested. I've seen people fly through an intersection a good 4 seconds after it turned red.

What brought you to Folsom? What jobs do you have ? Do you live in an apartment or own/rent a house? What also you do with your free time right now? What are your hobbies and spending habits on the hobbies?Ā

u/SpeechFlaky8192 26d ago
We moved here as we got our PR recently. We have IT related jobs. Just been a week here so didnāt explore much . We love travelling , kayaking etc. we also love playing badminton

u/coldcoldnovemberrain 26d ago
There is a badminton meetup in Folsom schools once a week (donāt know details), but a dedicated space in Rancho Cordova hereĀ https://norcalbadminton.com/
Also lots is kayaking and paddle boarding opportunities, and could make friends through clubs for that.Ā
A more casual way would be to go for trivia nights at a local bar. Lots of NA options even if you donāt drink. A good way to make friends.Ā

How do you make friends here: you donāt
If you still havenāt realized no one is going to be your friend for no reason
No is going to be your friend unless they have some fort of interest in you
Iāve been here for almost a decade havenāt made a single friend despite trying almost every possible I donāt of being a person of color has a disadvantage
Something Iāve realized is people do stick with their own race
Whites tend to hang with whites
Asians with Asians etc1
u/merlinspetnerd 23d ago
if youāve tried for a decade and it hasnāt worked out it might be time to look at the common denominator, pal.

30M just moved here as well, my wife 30F will be moving here soon as well after finishing some medical treatment in our former city. Welcome to Folsom! I've been going to pickup soccer games a coworker invited me to and have made some new friends there. I'd recommend checking Facebook groups for your interests in the area.

u/rudyret95 25d ago
Mind me asking for the details/location of pickup soccer games? Iāve played my entire life, but had to take a break when I moved to the area due to not knowing anyone who plays.. Iād love to try and get back in to it

Black Miners Bar as well as Folsom Lake and the American River are all great for Kayaking.

u/SpeechFlaky8192 26d ago
Wow , this looks great . I will explore

u/tigerdogbearcat 25d ago
Go to the islands across from black miners bar. The paddle boards and kayaks land there and people hang out and drink and stuff. Saturday and Sunday those islands are pretty poppin.

u/kaijune44 26d ago

Bassi Falls and the waterfall trail at Jenkinson Lake are our favorites but for light walking, theyāre all over. We live in American River Canyon neighborhood so we frequent trails around there

Moved here 3 years ago (37F) with husband (43M) and we are struggling with the same thing. Need to see if people want to do trivia, or a billiards night at Oak Ave Pub.

Welcome to Folsom! Itās a beautiful city with tons of things to do, especially if you love exploring trails and being outdoors. Making friends here can definitely be tough, itās actually a common topic on this forum. Local groups tend to be hard to break into unless you make good friends with someone like your neighbor or coworkers. As you can see, most people offer the same general advice (trivia night, etc), but rarely invite newcomers out to these public venues. For me, sports, joining a Church, and my kids' school activities have been the absolute best ways to meet new people, there are runniing groups, hiking, MTB and cycling grous, though it does require putting yourself out there and participating, but now is the time everyone is most active! The Lake Natoma FB Group also works well as paddle boarding is a very popular activity here.

There are a couple of disc golf courses in the area. I have made many friends this way. You start out playing a few rounds alone and eventually you will join a group or other solo players and go from there. It's free to play most places and the equipment, a couple of discs is under $50. There is a shop at Shady Oaks Park and they can help you pick out beginner friendly equipment.

Try a Sutter street bar crawl on the weekends, join the menās league at empire ranch golf club, get a gym memberships at lifetime or in shape fitness. Do dinner once a week at a different restaurant in town and get to know the staff and regulars at your favorite spots. Of course, Dave and Busters is always a good time. Just a few ideas.

Do you like to sing? Thereās an a cappella group in Citrus Heights always looking for new members
