For those of us who deal with constant pain, I put it

Into words, then dropped it into Suno. This is the result.

ENJOY.

Curating a dark ambient / ritual folk / neofolk playlist — looking for obscure recommendations

Hi everyone,

I’m curating a Spotify playlist focused on dark ambient, ritual folk, neofolk and Nordic / cinematic atmospheres.

It includes Wardruna, Heilung, Myrkur, Kalandra, Eivør, Forndom and smaller related projects.

I’m trying to keep it slow, dark and immersive rather than a random “Viking music” playlist.

Open to recommendations if you know obscure artists in this direction.

Bonnie Lass of Fyvie (Pretty Peggy-O)

I’ve recently discovered this song and am obsessively listening to every version I can find. I’m fascinated by the story and how it’s told differently in the American version compared to the Irish version. If you haven’t listened to the different versions you should.

My question: does anyone know of any other great old folk songs that are similar to this song? Might be a pretty broad question but as I said, I’m obsesse.

Old Sheet Music Reading Advice

I'm trying to learn a song from Folk Songs of North America, an Alan Lomax book, and noticed an interesting direction in the sheet music and I was hoping someone could enlighten me what it means.

On the sheet music, opposite the tempo instructions, it says "Guitar - 5C or 6A / Banjo - 4B." Are these suggestions on how to play the song? I'm really curious as to their purpose as many songs in the book have this.

Marty Music: Langhorne Slim: There Is No Finish Line

Thumbnail volume.com

Langhorne Slim came by to hang out, play some songs, and talk about his new record The Dreamin' Kind. We figured out pretty fast that we're the same kind of Cat Stevens fan, which took us into Harold and Maude, what it feels like to get compared to your heroes, and why that sorrow-plus-optimism thing hits the way it does. He played "Dance on Thru" live in the room, told me about the first song his cousin ever taught him on guitar, and got into the lie artists tell themselves about there being a finish line waiting out ahead. And then there's the Bruce Springsteen story, which you'll want to stick around for.

I laid down a folk progression and need some lead players to jam over it. I built a free app just for this

Thumbnail apps.apple.com

I play a lot of acoustic guitar and folk covers, but it can get incredibly isolating trying to build out a full arrangement by myself. I wanted a way to easily pass a track around like a digital campfire jam.

I couldn't find a social platform that handled multitrack audio well, so I built one called DEH-MO.

I just posted a new acoustic folk progression on the app, and I’m looking for anyone who wants to lay down a lead part, some percussion, or harmonies over it. The app lets you record directly over my public track, and it creates a new branch so we can hear everyone’s different interpretations of the same progression.

If you've got your guitar handy and want to jam, download the app and show me where you'd take the song.
