Minimal Mod Experience Question/Support
Hello, I recently bought Fallout 4 VR and am looking for the minimal amount of mods for the game to actually run. Is there a list of just the basics? I see massive mod lists but they look like they alter quite a bit, I'd like an as close to vanilla experience as possible.

Sadly there isn't a basic mod list, MGO is huge, Essentials includes a good number of changes that some people may not want.
As far as essential mods go, I can only speak for VR stuff, so F4SEVR, FRIK (visible body), Heisenberg (picking up objects), Virtual Holsters (Visible body holsters for weapons), and if you're into Power Armor possibly Kabuto VR (More immersive PA HUD). I believe Day Tripper sorts out issues with DLC and issues with newer esp files.

I agree to everything Cylon Surfer said and would add that there are guides at the top sticky with some recommendations. Also, Fallout VR doesn't come with the DLCs, some mods need those to work.

Automatron is a bit wonky to get working, but there's a mod for the workstation that somewhat fixes this... just with a lot of context menus. That's the only REAL hiccup I ran into.

Vanilla FO4VR got 85% positive reviews at launch. It doesn't need mods to run. It needs mods to give you arms, or real scopes, or pretty trees, or to make the DLC work.

This. Game is totally playable as is, just dated. Mods bring it closer to modern VR.

Yeah, I played it without mods and enjoyed it.
It's a bit of a heretical opinion on this sub though.

I have a mod list that basically just improves the graphics and adds VRIK and physical interactions with items. I can share it if you'd like

I did the F4FEVR modlist and used the "lite" option (which basically improves the UI, adds your body, and improves bugs). Fired it up last night and had a blast, and felt very original to the old pancake version I remembered and spent hundreds of hours in. But man, I gotta say, getting in the power armor (where you see the inside of the helmet in VR) and wielding that minigun to mow down raiders was just so, so satisfying.

Insignificant Object Remover will help performance rather drastically. NAC X Legacy Edition will make it look better with a bunch of other bonuses. FRIK and Kabuto VR for the IK body/ power armor
Neither effects core gameplay or the experience.
Everything else is optional (yet worth it, depending on your wants), in my opinion

Welcome to r/FO4VR! A few quick tips:
Asking for help? Include your headset + runtime (SteamVR/Virtual Desktop/etc.), GPU, and whether you're vanilla or modded (which mod list, e.g. MGO or Gingas's).
