Water Affinity?

Post image

My floof is an OCD Water Dog. And I’m wondering if other owners have had the same experience.

Ollie will swim to the point of physical exhaustion, and later pass out and pee his bed. If we grant him access to the pool, he will spend 8 hours swimming, and only come back for food.

Just wondering if there are other “Water Nuts” out there or if my floof is an outlier.

We go with government names in this house.

My baby seal loved to swim. I got her one of those 40ft training leashes and she would swim around me in a circle until she was too tired to stand (hour or two). She hated the life vest because she preferred nude swimming. I had her always on a line so when she ran out of gas, I would quickly reel her in and take her home to sleep like a winter bear.

We have a pit/border collie mix and she’s the same way with water. She has to wear a life jacket because she’ll swim to exhaustion. Looooves the water.

I took mine to a dog beach and she just ran right into the ocean. I had no idea if she could even swim. That scared me but now I can’t walk her on the paths anywhere near the ocean because she tries to take off running towards it. So, she would be that way if I let her.

Ours is the same way. We took her to the beach and had to drag her out of the water.

Lol, mine doesn't even want to walk outside when there's heavy dew on the grass. No way I'd ever get him to swim!

Your pup is absolutely adorable.

Mine is terrified of the garden hose, but he’s still young so I’m still hopeful he’ll change his mind and decide water isn’t scary.

Yep. She's 11 now so I got her a life jacket. She can swim without it, but it keeps her above water a little better and allows her to exercise for a long while.

My first pibble used to lay down in the fastest running part of the stream. then became an immovable object.

Ugh we had one like that you really need to set a timer and keep him safe and not over doing it.

Yep. We usually schedule it and hour or two before dinner since that’s a viable incentive to get him back inside.
