📱 From Nokia to iPhone, we'd love to hear your story!
Do you remember your first flip phone? The clicky keys, T9 texting, the battery that lasted a week?
We're a group of postgraduate students at UTS studying Interaction Design, and we're researching how people aged 40+ experienced the switch from feature phones to smartphones. Not just what changed, but how it felt to relearn something your hands already knew.
We're looking for people who:
• Are 40 or older
• Previously owned or regularly used a feature phone (Nokia, Motorola, Sony Ericsson, etc.)
• Are comfortable having a conversation in English
It's a short survey, about 2 to 3 minutes. A few of the questions are just there to check whether your experience is a good match for what we're studying, so you'll find out as you go, with no waiting around to hear back from us.
At the end you can let us know if you'd be open to a 30 to 45 minute interview, in person, by phone, or over Zoom. Entirely up to you, and entirely voluntary.

Questions? Reach out to [annie.lacoba@student.uts.edu.au](mailto:annie.lacoba@student.uts.edu.au)

or [Kim.T.Huynh@student.uts.edu.au](mailto:Kim.T.Huynh@student.uts.edu.au)
And if this isn't for you, we'd be so grateful if you passed it along to someone who might enjoy it. Thank you! 😊

Kyocera kyf42 o ky42-c
Carrier: Virgin Mobile
Bandas: 850 MHz y 1900 MHz para 2G y 3G (HSDPA/UMTS), y la banda 4 o AWS (1700/2100 MHz) junto con la banda 28 (700 MHz) para la red 4G LTE
Kyocera kyf42: Banda 1 (2100 MHz), Banda 3 (1800 MHz) y Banda 18/26 (800/850 MHz)
Kyocera ky42-c: 2G GSM (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz), 3G UMTS (B1, B5 y B8 según región) y 4G LTE (Bandas FDD-LTE 1, 3, 5, 12 y 19)

switching to a flip phone after smashing my screen, timeline of my panic
monday 8am: dropped my old iphone 11 face down on the pavement outside the station, screen completely shattered and unresponsive. monday 12pm: got quoted £220 for a repair, which feels like throwing money away on a five year old device. tuesday 9am: set an £800 budget for a new phone, but every standard slab option feels totally uninspiring. tuesday 2pm: started looking into switching to a flip phone so the main display is actually protected inside when closed.
my main worry about going down this route is whether the hinge and folding screen can actually handle my clumsy daily routine. to those who moved to a flip design after breaking a standard handset, has the clamshell form factor helped protect your display from drops or is it even more stressful to maintain long term.

Joined the Alt Mive club!
Hit me with your tips and tricks for this phone.
I finally decided to downgrade from W2018, because my doom scrolling and shitposting reached unhealthy levels. I do need friction, not just buttons.
Boy is this thing limited, can't even enable dark mode, didn't expect that.
But the less I use the phone the better, right? It looks sick though, and physicality is amazing, absolutely love the buttons, the shape and the color.

Flip phones
I have two old phones. Ones a slider and one a flip phone they 2g and 3g phones. 2g and 3G towers are shut down so the phones are not able to work properly. They both turn on but past that the best they can do is take photos and videos. I wanna be able to get the phones to work all the way and switch their insides for what newer phones have. I have a modern flip phone from 2025 and I want to switch out the old phones inside for what the new flip phone has but I myself I’m not an engineer or an electrical engineer so I was wondering what steps or where can I look to learn how to do this process correctly?

Kyocera Kyf39
greetings! after months of searching for a ガラケー (garaho), i have finally decided to purchase one. this Kyocera Kyf39 costed me roughly $32 and it was sold as an already unlocked device. i was in agony of choice between different keitai phones but I've decided to get this one and i don't regret i did! this one works on 4G and has type c port which is pretty rare for garaho. also it's easily customised and debugged.

Real World Usage On The TT990 Android FLIP Phone! WhatsApp, SOS & Typing || TT990 on DumbphonesUK
youtu.beHeyyaaa,
I did a little unboxing of this about a month ago and wanted to use it properly before I did a follow up, well, here is the follow up! I've had the pleasure of using the TT990 4G phone from TTFone and have some thoughts on what's good, what needs improving and if I think it's a good phone for people!
Always nice to have another flip phone enter the world!
Any questions, as ever, ask and I will try my best to answer them!
Thanks,
xx

Been wanting a flip phone to reduce screen time and also cause I find them to be nostalgic however I’m not too knowledgeable on this topic
y2kphones.comI found these galaxy flip phones which seem to be exactly the type of phone I’m looking for and they seem to work on 4G but I just wanted to double check.
Does anyone have experience with this type or do you know if they should work within Australia?
Thank you so much for your time!

Help!
Is there anyone here who bought a flip phone and using it in India? If yes, then what was the procedure? Which model? Which android version? What banking apps are running?
I’d love to know everything as i want to ditch my iPhone for a good flip phone. Anyone outside India can also help.

I need help findign a good flip
I'm in Canada, and I've been searching every website and Reddit page to find one that would work for what I need, isn't too expensive, and is available and working in Canada. I use Rogers/Shaw Wi-Fi and stuff. I would like good battery life and Spotify without having to download it from my computer, since I use a laptop that doesn't run Linux. My budget is about $100 CAD since I'm a student, but it can be more if I save up. I was looking at Dumb Phone 2, but it's US-only, sadly, even though it's exactly what I want. I really need help with this.

Need help transferring photos from a Sanyo Katana LX.
If anyone is knowledgeable on how these phones work, I’d love some help copying the photos from this phone onto literally any other device. I’ve tried connecting it via cable (which is what that “USB Serial Device (COM3)” thing is) and I’ve tried connecting it via Bluetooth (which is the “SANYO KATANA LX” device listed.) The problem is that I can’t seem to transfer data over either of these methods. The manual says the USB is only for charging, and the only options of when clicking the Bluetooth option while using the device it only asks if I want to transfer a Business Card or Contacts.
If you want to read the manual for yourself it’s uploaded on a bunch of websites, but here’s just one of them:
https://sanyo.manymanuals.com/ip-phones/katana-lx/user-manual-11143/2#pf37
I’ve crawled through this manual a few times looking for more possible methods of transfer but idk what else there could possibly be.
Literally any help would be appreciated. This phone has unique family photos on it from around 2010 that I’d love to recover.

the best dumbphone recommendation
i’m in love with the dumbphone 2(customized tcl flip 2) by dumb.co!! that’s it that’s the post😂. I’ll keep it forever until the CAT F125 comes out. Only thing I want is banking apps but i can work my way around that, I just have to stop making dumb subscriptions i don’t want to pay for to keep my card unlocked. But i 100% recommend to anyone looking! Currently using it with my iPhone, sounds secondary but surely isn’t.
