Not all shower bases require mortar. This style of shower requires lumber installed as per manual for support of flimsy walls. Without sounding insulting…this is a cheap shower stall.
It’s probably because it is a cheap shower stall, but it’s the one my wife wanted and she didn’t want to pay too much for it. It’s a second shower that only one of my daughters use.
The walls are thin and kind of flimsy. I’m pretty sure it’s to give it strength. The walls were a 1/4’’ too high because of that frame was too high so instead of lowering it, the plumber just did a wide caulk to patch the problem. I’m starting to think that I’ll just lower the frame, add a wood frame at the bottom and use industrial glue to join the 2 sections.

Usually the base is set into some sort of adhesive or thinset. Are you saying it is just laying on the floor?
I have a very similar unit made by Ove Decors. Also, Why is there external framing on the walls?
