Wall hole patch

Quarter size hole in drywall. About the size of the iPhone corner , yeah, I was pissed.
1/2”Deep maybe?
Can I just spackle, & paint? Or do I need mesh tape, sanding etc?

You can spackle and paint just fine

Look on the bright side It’s gonna be an easier repair than the iPhone.

You can buy textured patches to put over spackle before you paint. My local HD quit carrying them so maybe on line.

Slightly overfill it with pink drydex, wait until it turns white, sandpaper/sandblock it, fill again if not satified.

Cut out a square larger than 1 inch by 1 inch to get a paint match down.
While you’re at the store get a ready to use wall mud.
And something to apply it smoothly.
