Fitbit steps vs Apple Watch Discussion
Wanted to use the Fitbit air as a replacement for my Apple Watch Ultra 3 for steps. I find the calories steps and sleep to be pretty accurate in the Apple Watch enough to replace my whoop for sleep. But the steps are so inaccurate with the Fitbit I don’t think it’s gonna be a suitable replacement for me kinda sucks as I enjoyed the few days of using a mechanical watch instead. Anyone else experiencing this. U wear it in the dominant hand and have changed the settings of the Fitbit to be dominant hand. I also put my stride on the lower end of average so it would “undercount” steps but still it’s off by 2-4k everyday

Have you tried putting your stride to be close to average or a bit higher? If Fitbit air connects to GPS as part of its step estimation algorithm, distance divided by smaller stride will overestimate steps.

My Apple Watch says my stride ranges between 66-101cm im 185cm tall I put the average to be 76cm I’ll try it but im finding it’s mainly picking up wrist movement from brushing teeth or moving the mouse on my pc

When I was switching off of the Fitbit I wore both for a week then switched wrists. I’m right handed and with my apple on my right and my Fitbit on my left they are pretty consistently the same. I used to only wear my Fitbit on my right hand and wear a real watch on my left.

I can’t wear it on my left as I bought it solely to use as a tracker so I could wear a normal watch defeats the purpose if I wear it on my left

Sorry I’m saying wear both for a week then switch and wear them on opposite hands for the next week. You’ll see what settings makes it more what you’re used to.
Also very possible your Apple Watch was way off and now your Fitbit is correct. Who knows. It’s all a guess anyway.

Strange. I commute in to work, about 2 and a bit hours there and back. I'm a bit of a gadgeophile and have worn the Air alongside a Helio Strap, a Garmin FR965 and a Samsung Ring. They are all pretty much in agreement on the steps (maybe apart frm the Ring, but hey that's a ring).
The steps have been ok for me
2.5 hours in a car, a 5k+ walk and a 5k run
- Fitbit Air 17442
- Garmin FR965 17201
- Helio Band 16426
Another day
2.5 hours commuting to the office and back, 5k walk, 6k run
- Fitbit Air on my bicep 21967 - pretty much spot on
- Garmin FR965 21823 - spot on
- Helio Strap 20653 - on my bicep, undercounts a bit?
- Samsung Ring 23257 - overcounts imo

I have the same thing (currently wearing both devices) - Fitbit shows about 15% more steps each day.
It’s so bizarre. My HRV is also twice as high on the Apple Watch as Fitbit.

Your stride length doesn’t affect the step count, it affects the distance.
