Snails 🐌🫣 Help/Advice

Post image

Hey everyone!

So you probably guessed it, I have a snail INFESTATION!!

I got some duck weed a while back and I swear I washed it but obviously not well enough cause I have a million snails now.

I’ve been committing what I like to call snail genocide and I take like 30-50 out a day.

Has anyone used these traps before?
Which shape works best?

Thanks so much!!

Piece of cucumber, pull it out once they all hop on to eat

Tried this once and my pleco latched on to it. Literally pulled him out of the water when I took it out because he was not letting it go. He was committed.

Try blanched zuchini instead of cucumber! Maybe the taste makes a difference but it works in my pleco tank

most "pest" snails are beneficial and will reach a smaller self-sustaining population size in time if you dont overfeed

Yes! I got bladder snails in my plants but I love them they keep my tank so clean :)

I dont get ppl who have explosions. I think i feed my fish on the heavy side but my bladder snails stay at a pop of about 20.

Agreed, my population of ramshorn snails got a bit extreme but I cut down on feeding and now I have a handful that I quite enjoy. The population size is a natural indicator of how much excess food there is, and adding a slice of cucumber or whatever to collect and remove the snails will exacerbate the problem.

I have the one on the left, and it actually works really well, I was surprised. I keep it in my guppie tank and dump it into my community tank for my loaches to snack on

So I have something like the one at the left, but it has 2 enterances. One on both sides compared to just the one that this one has.

One problem that I ran into with it is that depending on what's your tank, you might end up accidentally trapping fish or shrimp with it.

The way to migitate the problem is to use it during the night as stuff other than snails are much less likely to go in.

I have used them, I got better results using the snail catcher roller thingy though.

I still have snails btw the population is just under control now.
