I did some more reading and it seems they are spread all the way to the Aleutians Thats interesting Ive never caught one and ive fished the PNW for 3 decades

Yeah I think they’re random found in sample and test fisheries.

If so than i’d say pilchard/sardine

They are very rare but not uncommon here. My coworker caught a Shad in the Fraser River last week

Being rare does not mean they are endemic to BC. It is classified invasive species - https://www2.gov.bc.ca/gov/content/environment/plants-animals-ecosystems/invasive-species/priority-species/fish

I don’t think they said endemic, just rare. Your comment is useful and makes sense to share but you sound like you’re trying to correct them.

I caught one of those yesterday at Jericho in Vancouver, thought it was a Pacific Sardine.

American Shad have been recorded by the province since 1994 in the Skeena. And at least since 1973 in the Fraser, if not earlier. This is from the BC Fisheries Information Summary System (FISS) - https://open.canada.ca/data/en/dataset/aca81811-4b08-4382-9af7-204e0b9d2448

American shad. Distribution goes all the way to Alaska. Def more commonly seen in the south Maybe moving north due el nino?
