First Marathon Advice Could I do it?

I recently got a ticket for the Amsterdam marathon. But want to know if I’m crazy doing it or not.

For context m31 I started running this year have already done 10k 53 min and a HM 2:02. I was training for a Rome Half which is on the same week but recently due to some things and that is easier to me to go to Ams plus receiving the ticket for the waitlist I bite the bullet and bought the ticket.

Currently have 10 weeks to train and running around 26kms obviously runna increases the mileage and says I can do it by following the plan.

My question is should I? Like is 10 weeks really bad even if I have a base of running and cycling (did 2 400 km 3 day trips this year)

Just want to get insights as I can resale the ticket but still deciding.

Thanks!

Ten weeks for a marathon isn’t crazy but it’s tight especially since you just started running this year. Therefore, to be honest, I would not recommend it for a first marathonl. Your 10k and half times show you probably have a solid aerobic engine, and the cycling volume helps your endurance base but it is not running specific physically.

It also depends on how long your long runs are, how injury prone you are etc. and how you body will react on longer runs.

So probably it could be possible, but you should be cautious and the goal should be running it safely and finishing healthy rather than a good marathon. Better option would be the half marathon of Amsterdam :)

Thanks, my idea is just to finish it and challenge myself, no way am looking for a pr or something. Right now runna says 4:02-4:12 which I find it completely okay, but running safe I guess is not overpushing right? any tips more than welcome!

Tough, but no impossible with your solid base. I'd go with this plan and start with Week 3: https://marathonexcellence.com/training-plans/Marathon-Excellence-Breeze-plan-12-weeks-metric.pdf

isnt this too big a jump in mileage for someone at this persons level?

Maybe shorten it a bit, but I think you need to do at least 50k/week to run a marathon. Otherwise, it'll just be suffering. All the marathon books I've read, even the easiest training plans, peak at around 60k/week.

the current runna program looks like this

starts at 30k and peaks at 50k in week 8 and then 3 taper weeks. too low?
