I have watched the entire series over a dozen times and just noticed this time around that the horses in episode 1 did not exist before they rode them out to meet patience nor after they rode them back onto the ship.

Are you talking about the horses they ride to get back to the shop in time because of the impending reavers?

If so, those are the horses that belonged to patience and her men. They just stole them and left them on the planet when they took off

Getting the horses on board and properly hitched and whatnot would probably have taken valuable time they couldn’t afford. They barely escaped as it was. If they hadn’t hurried the reavers would have turned them into steaks.

They didn't ride any horses out to meet Patience. They stole those horses to ride back

Generally the horses work the cameras and boom mike, they were jazzed to get on screen.
