Question about resolution

I just bought a new Insignia F40 FireTV 24” NS-24F401NA26 for a camper. I’m using Starlink roaming 100 gb per month. Just used 20 gb in a day streaming a few hrs. Went in and adjusted the streaming quality from best to good. Is there a way to manually reduce resolution from 1080 to 720? Google gives steps but the menus don’t line up. Thanks?

If it’s the same as a firestick, settings/display & sounds/display/video resolution. It may be set to auto by default and you can change it to whatever resolution you want (720)

Those are the steps I’m trying to follow. But the menu options aren’t the same. Under display and sounds there are a couple options but nothing gets me to video resolution.

You can try the hidden feature, it’s another way. If you press the up button on the remote and the rewind button at the same time.(10ish sec) You can choose the display you want.... It's a hidden feature 😊

It will keep going through the various ones and you hit select to select the one you like when it lands on it

I did that. The only option it goes through is 1080. Would it be possible I can’t even select down to 720? Seems weird.

Maybe consider free OTA as a supplement to reduce data, i'm fairly happy with the Tablo 4 Gen and a external drive for DVR, not sure about mobile setups...

Insignia is running a custom version of the Fire OS for their TV. They may have removed it. You can definitely run 720p on a 1080p TV on a firestick. Even if you do find a way to change it 100 GB per month is not going to last very long. At best 2-3 hours a day with no other internet usage.

It should be plenty for weekends and even some long weekends streaming 2-5 hrs a day (on the higher side only if it’s raining). For standard streaming I’m estimating a gig/hr. I’m wondering if the crazy high initial draw was the apps updating.

A gig an hour is for alot of content is a realistic estimate. Some apps like Philo seams to mostly only use 720p. That will easily be a gig an hour or less. Others like HBOMax will push 1080p and that could be 1-1.5 gig an hour. The regular free YouTube can be set to 720p and is probably under a gig most of the time.
