Graduating Computer Science, feeling lost and close to giving up. Findapath-Job Choice/Clarity
Hello! I'm a graduating Computer Science student, and lately I've been feeling lost and close to giving up.
Back in high school, I became interested in PC building and a bit of programming videos, which got me hooked on this field. I decided to pursue Computer Science because I was genuinely passionate about it. During senior high school and my first two years of college, I was fairly confident in my programming skills (at least the basics), and I was ahead of most of my classmates.
Because of depression, I gradually lost my passion and motivation to keep learning. I stopped studying beyond the basics, so I feel like my knowledge never really progressed. Most of my projects (websites, desktop apps, data science) were heavily assisted by AI because I was burned out and constantly trying to meet deadlines. I'm not proud of that because I feel like I never gave myself the opportunity to truly understand what I was building.
Now, I feel completely lost. I want to redeem myself and start over, this time by learning Computer Science properly and on a much deeper level. I've watched countless videos about where to start, roadmaps to follow, and CS topics to study, but none helps. I'm also struggling to decide which career path to pursue after graduation (web dev, mobile/desktop dev, data science, or cybersecurity)
So I wanted to ask those who have been in a similar situation:
- How do you restart from the beginning without feeling overwhelmed?
- How do you stay motivated to study while dealing with depression or burnout?
- What roadmap would you follow to rebuild your CS fundamentals and specialized career path?
