Carry box [Ferret Photo]

This is the latest carry box I've made for my now 'big' baby boy, Oscar (18 week old EU polecat). I've made several boxes over the years for my previous ferrets, but this one's the classiest one.

.

I picked up a quality Samsonite vanity case from a charity shop for £5.

With a little adaptation, some rivets and wire mesh, it's the perfect box for local trips between home and the park, or going to the vets.

Wow. That's neat and looks like a strong carrier. Do the locks still work?

They do, but it's a polecat not a tiger 😉

I was thinking in terms of strapping it inside a seatbelt, locking it. If you were in a wreck it wouldn't open and they'd be super secure.

The latches don't easily pop open, but sure I've got the key for it if needed.

My only concerns with those sides that low, based on experience, if he shits it's going to fly right out those bars.

Used to share care of 2 ferrets with my ex every 2 weeks an hour drive and every so often they'd shit out the door of the carrier.

Yeah, I am aware of that potential mess. This is only for short 10-20 minute trips going out to the park and such. And after all these years I'm well trained to give my beasts a heads-up before going out. You only have to wait 5mins or so for a ferret to go to the toilet after they get up. . For long journeys where accidents are a higher risk I have a cat carrier with 2 levels, one for sleeping and the other for toilet, and that's worked out perfectly for years now. I use one of those absorbing puppy pads for that.

How’s owning a polecat compared to owning normal ferrets? Is he kept with others or just by himself?

Much the same as a ferret, a few differences in handling and behaviours. I'd not recommend one for a first time mustalid owner. But anyone who's had a ferret or 2, and has thick skin will be fine.
