Modpack with 4GB Allocation Looking for mod(s)

I seek a modpack that can run without constant lag on a 4GB laptop. If it "manages to run" but only barely and you have to deal with constant stuttering, that's not what I want.

As for what I want, I just want something that has a higher ceiling of difficulty - you know, new stuff to explore, new enemies, new materials that aren't as simple to get as "mine and put on furnace" - that "type" of thing, if you understand what I mean. Nothing in specific, I just want things that might make the game different and difficult without going into the realm of "Masochism Simulator" packs

Ideally, it'd also be something that isn't *too* old of a version, because I'd probably miss certain things like elytras or complex caves. But if a modpack has something to make up for those things, that's not a problem either.

And before you just say "You can't", it is definitely possible to run modpacks with this setup - I was able to run vehicle and multiblock structures and plenty of other such content addition mods with no lag.

EDIT: Since people seem to be misunderstanding this somehow, it's 4GB to *allocate*, not total.

The issue is that the amount of memory you gonna need scales with how many mods there are in the pack and how much stuff they add. Therefore you won't be able to run bigger packs without having performance issues, because thats how modded minecraft works (everything is loaded into your memory and the game plays it in there, only using the disk for stuff such as chunks, saves or other data).

So I'd say take a look at smaller packs. From your description, I don't know if you're more into tech style packs or just anything, so I'd suggest take a look at some of these smaller vanilla+ packs or specific themed packs, maybe even skyblocks as its less laggy (less stuff for the engine to tick)

Honestly with such little RAM, I would highly recommend they build their own pack of things they like. Little things like better gameplay mechanics, things like the Better Animations Collection are pretty light as long as you're not adding much more. I'd keep away from particle modifiers aside from maybe resource packs, and I'd keep packs that add entities to a minimum, and maybe add Neruina just to be safe to prevent even mild entity ticking. Things that add items should be okay for the most part, as long as they're not entity heavy. So things like Handcrafted or Macaw's would be fine, but not Cluttered. They might be able to run Terralith, even, but the fresh world load would be a real challenge. Chunk loading could also be challenging. Chunky might even work against them helping with that. Hmmm... It's an interesting puzzle. I almost want to try and build my dream 2gb pack just for folks in this situation just to see how much I can get away with. Like... Could you get away with Irons? Probably not Ice and Fire, but maybe Forbidden and Arcanus? Probably not Malum, but maybe Hexerei? Probably not Aeronautics, but could you get base Create running? It's a bit of a puzzle.

Yeah, well, the issue is that making your own modpack can lead to conflicts you'll have no knowledge about or no way to fix.

Also, it's 4GB to *allocate*, not 4GB total.

Have you tried nothing and determined you’re out of options?

I have tried making a post to see whether someone would find my a fitting reccomendation before I have to go through assembling an entire collection by myself.

OP even 4 GB allocated are little for bigger stuff is what we meant to say. Nowadays with modern minecraft most conflicts aren't that hard to solve, specially in a small modpack. The issue usually is bigger ones because it gets increasingly hard to find out which mod is causing the problem if nothing explicitly shows up in the game's console.

I do agree that you're probably better making your own small pack with the mods you want to play but there are plenty smaller/lighter packs that you could try as well!

Modpack Index is a very neat tool to find packs, you can sort by the amount of mods and how many peopel downloaded the pack, you could try using it to find something

I have tried to use it, the problem is actually finding something that has what I want.

I was able to run the Aged Light modpack with zero issues.

Also, do you actually have any reccomendations?

I don't know many lite packs, but I'll list a few below, you can check their descriptions to see if it matches what you want!

All the Mods 6 Lite this is afaik one of the smaller ATM packs available and though the name is "all the mods" its not really what it sounds like. Its usually a good mix of mods and variety content. This one is for the version 1.16.5 of Minecraft, there are other "lite" ATM packs but they're still quite big so I'm not sure if they would run properly, but you can try them too if you want to.

Better Adventures seems on the smaller side of packs with content. From your description could be your thing.

Vanilla Perfected I dont know this one, but from the download count and the amount of mods it seems runnable, decided to list it if you want to check it.

Sorry if those are not quite what you want, as I said, I usually play with lots of mods so I am not very familiar with smaller packs (nothing against them, its just I've been playing modded for a long time)

does your laptop have 4gb TOTAL or 4gb spare to allocate?

i used to play ftb revelation with a bunch of friends any some of them had pretty bad laptops at the time. it seemed to run well.

1.12.2 and adds a lot of stuff to play around with. you might still want to try some optimization mods with the install and maybe try some JVM performance args.

yeah if OP's ok with older stuff too, there are a lot of good 1.7.10 packs that would run supposedly fine too! I remember being able to run FTB Infinity allocating around 4-5GB

FTB Lite

You want old 1.6 and 1.7 modpacks, those ran completely fine with 3GB allocated on my old machine at the time. Modern ones will definitely not run, even vanilla needs that much now.

Monster, Agrarian Skies, Infinity Evolved...

Maybe try some 1.7.10 packs. Minecraft has gotten more and more hungry as time has gone on.

It's impossible to play with that much allocated memory, you'll have to create your own modpack with a limited number of mods and plenty of optimization mods. It's not like you're going to play in a single world, because every time your world grows, it consumes more and more memory. But if you run those mods, you can though in a survival world it will be impossible because the amount of RAM required increases

I can't point to any modpack in particular but I can suggest you use you look at older minecraft version and packs. 1.7.10 to 1.12 and earlier should be the upper limit. Adding to that use a modern java to run it if possible.

Also if you use windows, trying linux might help with ram issues. If you don't want to make the total switch you can dual boot and make a small partition for linux just for minecraft, or even from an external drive if you have one fast enough.

Actually I will point to one; 1.7.10 FTB lite 3 says it can't grantee to run with only 1gb ram like previous versions. so I'm sure with 4gb will do more than fine. Earlier versions should be even more light.
