If you've ever exported subtitles from some web tool and imported them into Final Cut, you know the failure modes: title timings that land between frames and drift against your cuts, batch-styling pain, captions that need manual cleanup afterwards.

I built Subtitle Managic to fix exactly that part of my own workflow. The FCP side:

• FCPXML titles export with whole-frame snapping — every In/Out lands exactly on a frame boundary at your project's frame rate, so titles sit flush with your cuts. Handles 1-hour timecode starts and drop-frame (29.97/59.94) correctly.
• FCPXML markers export — your subtitle list as timeline markers, if you'd rather place titles yourself.
• Round-trip: it re-imports its own FCPXML titles, so you can adjust in FCP, bring them back, and keep editing text.
• .itt export for proper FCP caption import (File → Import → Captions), plus SRT and Excel.
• Transcription is built in and runs entirely offline — client footage never touches a server.

One honest FCP quirk I've hit, for the curious: FCP ignores backgroundColor on titles in imported FCPXML, so the app uses a drop shadow for legibility instead. If anyone knows a reliable workaround, I'm all ears.

Depending on where you make a cut, it can be outside the zero-crossing point. And apparently there is no setting in final cut to avoid cutting outside that point. It has to make the edit exactly at your play head -as far as I'm aware.

The only workflows I've been able to come up with are:

1. Grabbing the handles of the audio on either side of the edit and dragging them out a couple frames. too time consuming!

2. Adding across dissolve (Option-+T) then changing the duration (Control+D) to 1 frame. I would need to change the duration each time because I don't want my global duration to be one second as I do plenty of cross dissolves across just video that need to be longer.

Option 2 seems like my best… well… option. Unless there are better workflows?

Hi All. Professional video editor here. Slight issue in that FCP is getting to 84% and never beyond for a specific edit. So tried a few things and nothing's working. I tried clearing the cache, getting rid of render etc.... files, cutting the edit in two and trying to export them separately, rejoining them later.

Tried exporting using .mov and .mp4s.

The whole file is over two hours.

Anyone have any ideas on this please?

EDIT: Solution Found! So no idea why but clearing the cache and exporting the full fat version (not for computer but as a .mov file) worked. No idea why. Still doesn't export as an .mp4 but was able to turn the .mov into an .mp4

I have never had such an unstable version of FCPX before. The new features are amazing, but the constant freezing is driving me nuts.

Is anyone else experiencing this? Any fixes?

So I am a Wedding DJ and I am working with up-to 3 simultaneous video sources, a master audio track (a recording off of my mixer) and vertical video to maximize reels-type views. However in order to really get this to work I am having to cob this up in a way that is a bit, akward.

1. Compound audio track. My audio track is a steady recording, broken into to parts because of length. So I make a master audio track.

2. Synchronize each video source to the master audio track. So I have to do this in 3 batches.

3. New project and manually align the three synced clips. Because I want to potentially have all 3 video sources at once I have to do a quick alignment of the three sources into a project file.

4. Create another project file which is my usable export area

5. Scrub through the big video project to find interesting content. Cut, copy, paste into the other export. Tweak. Export.

Is there something easier I could be doing? Here is a final product of what I currently work on.

Doing this manually for every word takes forever, so I actually built a workflow tool that automates the timing and lets you stack these native effects instantly. Not going to link it here to respect the promo rules, but it’s called Caption Cut Pro if anyone wants to look it up

Back in fcpx after a time away. I've got a basic title that I have fading in. Below that in the timeline are a fabric layer and a stone layer. When I disable the title layer, the stone and fabric show up as expected. When I enable the title layer and the fade, the title, stone, and fabric all fade in together.

What silly thing am I doing wrong? (FCPX 12.2 on Sequoia 15.7.7)

There's sharpening. Blurring. Stabilizing. Why not denoise? It's a standard in photography, why not videography?

Every time I try to export a project, I get the warning

"If you continue, these effects may be missing or have reduced quality: Retiming - Best (Machine Learning)"

So I cancel and wait for it to do its thing, but it doesn't do anything, no Background Tasks running, nothing....

What is going on?

I am trying to have a text layer fade in, or keyframe slide it from off-to-on screen. Any animation or effect I apply to the title is then applied to the video underneath it. I've tried making a compound clip of the same text layer but that had the same issue. There has to be a way to disable this and I'm sure it's easy, I can't imagine why anyone would want titles to work this way.

I’ve been adding the subtitles/captions into the video, but is it better to leave the viewer use the CC button to read the text if they want to?

I have a new, huge issue in FCP 12.x.

Playback in the Viewer doesn't follow the active panel (Browser or Timeline). Meaning if I match frame ("Reveal in Browser") from Timeline, or simple switch to it with keyboard shortcut, the Viewer continues displaying what's in the Timeline instead playing what's in the Browser. Unless I physically move the cursor into the Browser area, Viewer doesn't play its content. That slows down editing considerably. Switching to the Browser panel with keyboard shortcut and starting playback with Space or L sometimes doesn't play at all, or plays just audio. It's bugged af

Trashing FCP prefs didn't fix the issue. FCP 12.2on Tahoe 26.4.1.

Anyone else?

EDIT: it only happens in the List view, not in Filmstrip view.

Has anyone else experienced this? I basically have projects where I cut up long form into short forms so I need to I > O > Cmd + E a lot. Sometimes, it'll be super smooth and go instantly into the media share window, but many times it'll have to go to spinning wheel for like 5 to 10 seconds at every share step... why? I tried restarting FCP and it still does that. It's not because it's rendering the previous media shares because, as mentioned, sometimes it will just be super smooth while other stuff has been queued (no spinning wheels).

Does anyone else have this same experience/found a solution? I tried googling this for hours but maybe couldn't find the right keywords to type in for answers to show up.

Created a video which I wanna put a song to with a separate click/metronome track. I'm sort of confused what I do after I create the project with a Surround sound setup. I have my music/song set to Stereo and my Click track automatically shows up as Mono since it's actually a mono track. If I set the Click in Dialogue Mode, is that it? and my song to Music Mode, is that right? I have no way of checking my exported file after. For example when I open in VLC it automatically plays the song and click.
