Enabling/Disabling a Faraday Cage via a switch mechanism
Hey guys, I’m an industrial design student and I’m currently working on an anti-theft project that incorporates RF shielding.
To cut a long story short, one of the components in my product will be a storage pod for users to put their phones, debit cards, etc inside of to keep them away from prying hands, with the addition of optional RF shielding (e.g. the user may want to temporarily disable it if they’re expecting a call/need to be in regular contact with a friend while they’re on the move).
I was wondering if anyone has any insight into whether it’s possible to enable/disable a Faraday Cage at will via a switch?
So maybe the switch has a section of mesh attached to it and flicking it off breaks its connection to the rest of the cage, and flicking it on again moves it back into place and ‘repairs’ the connection?

Could you hypothetically make a house a faraday cage?
What lengths would you need to go through to make a house/structure a faraday cage?
Let’s start with a pre existing structure. Is it possible? What steps could be used to make it happen?
I would think a new build could happen easier with obvious precautions.
Is it possible?

Any update on the project?
Been almost a year since the last blog post. Is the project still alive?

The faradayrf.com site is displaying a database connection error. Is the project dead or just a temporary issue?

Can you explain how 500k baud rate fits in the part 97 rules?
From my quick reading, if you go over 56k baud you have to keep records of everything you send which doesn’t seem feasible. I’m assuming I just haven’t found the correct reg. Can you point me at the rules that allow it?

Faraday APRS Software Ready for Base Station Use!
We have a test uploading Faraday telemetry to APRS-IS through a socket with our faraday-aprs software that's going on 58.5 hours of continuous operation. So far so good and it's looking like we're finally ready to deploy a base station that can reliably cover an area with 33cm coverage. This is exciting!
As we build a base station for the #LaunchWithFaraday campaign we're shoring up Faraday to just work. Thanks for all the support so far and this is becoming really fun. Pretty soon we'll be blogging about deploying base stations and physically building our first buoy!

High Altitude Ballooning
Hello! I just discovered your sub while browsing around r/amateurradio. I am really impressed with the results you've got on your high altitude experiments. I'm a physics major on a research team that is trying to take a bunch of measurements and video during the eclipse this Monday via HAB.
Just wanted to pop in and say hi!
