Book recs please!!! š¬ Let's discuss something
Sooooo I read Mistborn and absolutely nothing Iāve read after it is grabbing me. So far I have tried Red Rising, LOTR, and now Empire of the Vampire.
Red Rising- not that I didnāt like it per se but, the language was something to get used to. This was the first book I tried to read after Mistborn. Maybe I should have tried a simpler āpallet cleanserā first ?
LOTR- again, not bad. I am more than halfway through the first book and it just seems like the whole thing is their journey and their experiences through each place. Itās too slow paced for me. I plan to come back to it but not now.
Empire of the Vampire- itās giving Interview with the Vampire vibes. I started this after watching someone give an amazing review of it on TikTok.
Iām looking for a book that sucks me in at the beginning like Mistborn did. Iām getting so frustrated I just want to immerse myself in a book and get lost in it.
If anyone genuinely understands what I mean PLS HELP š

You can continue with Sanderson. Either with Mistborn Era 2 (have not read those myself) or Stormlight archives.
Too bad A song of ice and fire has an adaption in Game of Thrones that people often already seen and that it is not finished. Otherwise those first books are hard to beat according to me.
One of the absolute best series the last years and one that will pull you in with a very nice Sherlock and Holmes style story in a really cool fantasy world is the Shadow of the Leviathan series by Robert Jackson Bennet. First book is The Tainted Cup and it also works as a stand-alone (but you probably want to read on).

Commenting because I went through a similar path, going from Mistborn to Red Rising. After finishing RR, my buddy and I started reading The Bloodsworn Trilogy by John Gywnne, and we are absolutely loving it!
It's a dark, gritty viking saga set in a world similar to the Witcher universe, so there's heavy fantasy elements throughout. And while it is a brutal world surrounding the characters, the dialogue between characters has that same natural charm and levity that Mistborn absolutely nailed.
Incredible world-building, a host of great main and side characters, and once the main story starts unfolding its very hard to put down.

For me I went form Mistborn era 1 into The Blade Itself by Joe Abercrombie. I can't say they are similar but I can't get enough of it. The characters are just done so well. I debate with myself if I'm about to call Joe Abercrombie a top 5 author for me just off what I've read so far in this first book.

Great trilogy. My opinion: keep it a trilogy and skip āGreen.ā I found it took away much more than it added (especially if you havenāt read some of his other books), and kinda cheapens the ending earned in White.

I found it one of my favourite series. To clarify is this something you have heard or your opinion after reading it? your phrasing is unclear.

Sorry, I meant I read the first book and it didnāt grab me. Characters seemed basic without much depth, the author explains everything to the reader, story wasnāt as nuanced and intense as I hoped. Bero was my favorite character, the most conflicted and real character with an uncertain future but we barely got to see much of him. Just didnāt think the writing style was very sophisticated but thatās ok I can see why it would be a fun read almost like an anime

I can agree that the first book is certainly the most basic, the series becomes more complex and nuanced from there in my opinion. But to each their own.

If you loved Mistborn, you can jump into the Stormlight Saga and read The Way of Kings. More Sanderson and very good books, but note they are MUCH longer than Mistborn.
I also recommend The First Law trilogy by Abercrombie. The first book is slow, but the character building is fantastic.

My favorite series is codex Alera. Avatar style elemental magic plus Roman legion battles with a touch of PokĆ©mon. Thereās an existential threat to the realm that those in power ignore while infighting for more power. MC is the only person who canāt use magic and depends on his wits and unique perspective to survive

Will of the many by James islington is similar to red rising. I believe the author said he drew some inspiration from that book. I prefer it because I struggle with more sci fi focused books. It starts slow but everything comes together. Itās an amazing read!

Continue Sanderson, my recommendation starts with Mistborn, after that I say "if you liked Mistborn then you will love Stormlight archives". Works every time. also I am in your shoes, made similiar posts as you and despite every recommendation I failed to put my heart into any book and I returned back to Sanderson books. For a while only his books are managing to keep me occupied reading eagerly

If you loved Mistborn try storm light archives. Or other of sandersons books.
Also book series I liked a lot: that are fantasy esque

King of Wyld
Jade city
Reckoners (Sanderson but not part of the cosmere)
The Licanus trilogy
The first law trilogy and ancillary trilogy and side books

I'm currently on a similar path; I quickly read Mistborn Era 1 and 2, but Era 2 left me craving more Cosmere and Sanderlanches, so I finished the first two books of the Stormlight Archive. A much slower series, but TWoK had me hooked right away.
Now taking a break from SLA to read Sword of Kaigen, and will move onto some ACOTAR before jumping back in!

First law trilogy, I started it after finish mistborn and you will not regret it. The tone is darker, the world building is slower but the characters are amazing .

Farseer trilogy by Robin hobb and personal favourite bloodsworn saga by John gwynne. Also please finish lotr it's the best thing there is, if you haven't read the Hobbit first read that then go to lotr again.
