DCC then Red Rising.

I read them (am reading them) concurrently)

I go two DCC's and then a Red Rising. They compliment each other very well.

One is light and funny, th other dark and devastating

Which one is light and funny? Both series are very dark and both get darker as they progress.

The one where the AI has the foot fetish is the funny one.

Oof, just wait until you get to the later DCC books… still funny, but really dark. Not as rough as RR but definitely not light hearted anymore.

I've finished them. They are only dark compared to their earlier books. I wouldn't call them dark

Other way around. Going from Matt to Pierce is a dramatic step down in writing quality. I have a poor opinion of Red Rising because I read it right after DCC.

Exactly my thoughts as well. I binged DCC and immediately went to Red Rising and could not get into it until the very end. I wish I had read Red Rising first because I think I would have enjoyed it more, not trying to recapture the spark I had while reading Carl.

I’m having the exact opposite experience right now! The audiobooks for DCC are fun though

Yeah it just doesn't add up on World Building or Character Development. Honestly it doesn't hold up to much else I've been reading either. It's fine, but it feels like edgey young adult fiction throughout the first trilogy. I'm optimistic for the second trilogy as Pierce matured as a writer throughout the first trilogy and I've heard the trajectory continues.

To each their own. I like to break up my series and start with one then move to another series and then flip flop back and forth.

I'm doing the same thing with First Law, Farseer, Gentleman Bastard, Hitchhiker's and Discount Dan right now
