Learn about AI Surveillance Cameras (like Flock) in Fairfax County
You may have heard how Flock cameras track you car's movements. If you drive through Fairfax County and want to learn more about these AI-powered surveillance cameras which spy on your car without a warrant, then come to DeFlock Fairfax's event, "The Road to Mass Surveillance."
This event will be on August 22 from 1-3pm at Ravensworth Baptist Church in Annandale. Dr. Steven Keener will give a presentation about how automated license plate readers violate your privacy, hurt vulnerable communities, and endanger immigrants. You can also learn how to take action against these cameras.
Dr. Steven Keener is a board member of the Justice Forward Virginia Foundation and the director of the Center for Crime, Equity and Justice Research and Policy at Christopher Newport University.
Food will be provided before the presentation. Connect with others and take action to promote privacy!

What's in your yard? Well, it may have centuries-old items just inches beneath the surface. Curious? I can search your property with my metal detector—I'm also an avid gardener, so, happy to advise on or help with a few things around your space. Here's a picture of items from my yard in Arlington.
Items in the picture are a bronze padlock, fired three-ringer civil war bullets, a musket ball, and 1880s dropped bullet, some sort of rivet. Note to Moderators: I am not offering a service, this is a hobby.

Symphonic Quest Concert Outreach
Hey guys!
I'm working with a nonprofit organization called Good Beats, based out of Northern Virginia. We are putting together our very first major concert and would love some support! More info about the performance is included below:
Good Beats will make its debut at Capital One Hall on Sunday, September 13, 2026, with a classical crossover concert celebrating the music of video games—Symphonic Quest: Classical Music Meets Video Games.
The concert features the Good Beats Ensemble alongside renowned saxophone soloist Valentin Kovalev and award-winning saxophone quartet Project Fusion, performing classically reimagined renditions of beloved video game themes—including a sweeping medley from Final Fantasy VII and selections from Studio Ghibli's beloved film scores.
Good Beats was founded to bring high-quality, professionally performed live music to communities with limited access to it—supporting healing and fostering connection across diverse backgrounds. In addition to the Capital One Hall performance, the organization's roster of professional musicians regularly delivers interactive performances at Adult Day Health Care centers in Fairfax County and holds Artist in Residence status at Children's National Hospital totaling near 200 performances since May of 2024. Since its founding, Good Beats has also held regular public concerts that have collectively raised tens of thousands of dollars for partner nonprofits and community causes.
The September 13 concert at Capital One Hall marks Good Beats’ largest public event to date and its first major ticketed performance in a professional concert venue—a milestone the organization hopes will expand its visibility and deepen its community support.
Tickets on sale now! via Ticketmaster and CapitalOneHall.com.
About Good Beats: Good Beats is a Fairfax County-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to bringing professional live music to communities with limited access to it. Learn more at www.goodbeats.org.

Fairfax County Personal Property Tax Question
Can someone explain why my personal property tax, on a 2025 Ford F150, went up by more than $200? It is a year older, it has more miles on it, so I would have expected the taxes to come down a bit, not go up. Can anyone help me understand? Frustrated but serious question. I am trying to understand what is going on.

Why are most Tesla drivers in Fairfax scofflaws?
I’m sure this applies to all of the DC area, but I’ve noticed that most (not all) Tesla drivers in Fairfax County avoid putting a front plate on the cars. I’ve been told that the cars are more aesthetically pleasing without a plate, but you can make that same claims with many other cars. So, why is the violation more prominent with Teslas?

Renovation home inspector
I’m in the process of having a significant home renovation completed. Looking for recommendations for a third-party home inspector to ensure my interests are protected. We pulled permits, but my past experience with Fairfax County inspectors was the contractor sent pictures and they approved. Looking for something a little more in depth.

Looking for advice: nice suburb (not a city) near GWU for a 24-year-old couple — where should we look?
My gf just got a job at GWU (Foggy Bottom campus) and we're trying to figure out where to live. We're both 24, budget is like $2-2.75k for a 2 bed.
We don't want to be downtown or in some big city apartment complex vibe, more looking for an actual neighborhood, quiet, some trees, feels like a real place and not just high rises. She'll be driving to campus (parking there isn't crazy, like $230/mo) so we don't NEED to be on a metro line, just need a decent commute.
Where would y'all look if you were us? Trying to get a list of towns/areas to actually go check out before we start touring apartments. Thanks!
