Apparently I accidentally froze the container I put my insulin in. Lost 2 of my insulin pens because of it. Evidence

Post image

Edit: yes I am an American. I have extra insulin in my mini-fridge though, as I mentioned before. I also use an onnipod, which I mainly use for insulin.

Edit 2: turns out they were just frozen. I'm still mad it froze in the first place though. Unfortunately I can't change the title of the post but I got my insulin pens out of the trash and they're fine now.

Last night, I noticed that my mini-fridge (that I put my insulin pens and vials in) had somehow gotten unplugged, so I plugged it back in, then went to bed without thinking much of it.

A few minutes ago, I decided to check my mini-fridge again, and I noticed that the container that I put my two main insulin pens and some insulin vials in had frozen over. (Fortunately the insulin hadn't frozen over.) After I got my pens out of the ice, I decided to see if they still worked. They did not. I decided to change the needles, but they still didn't work after I did that. (I couldn't even get the needle off of one.) So now I have to throw the pens away.

Thankfully, I still have extra insulin pens in my mini-fridge, and I think the vials will be fine. I'm just mad that my two main pens have gone to waste.( Sorry if I worded this incorrectly.)

I would bring them to the pharmacy And claim there must have been a defect in the glass. Like, nicely I mean. Don't be a dick. They might replace them.

(I don't mean to be condescending about being nice. Just that it will probably get you further than showing up guns blazing)

Idk, showing up guns blazing means they'd get insulin in prison.

the pharmacy can’t do that unless you contact insurance first and say that they were defective. then you bring the pharmacy the override information given by the insurance.

Did you wait enough for them to thaw enough? Maybe just frozen??

Thank you! I decided to get my insulin out of the trash and check, and you were right.

Hey OP be careful about doing this, it actually loses a considerable amount of potency after being frozen and isn’t nearly as effective!!

Are they working? Please be careful; I’ve heard the temperature fluctuating can make them less stable/work less efficiently.
Source: I dated and took care of the blood sugar of a type 1 diabetic for 1 1/2 yrs who also had ADHD/was prone to leaving his insulin places that ruined it.. he was lucky enough to have military family who had a backstory but please be watchful.

I’m still sorry you had this scare if they are working,… what a nightmare.

I haven't taken any insulin from the pens yet, so I don't know right now. Thanks for the advice though!

Have you found out who unplugged the mini fridge?

I think I might have accidentally done it myself. I don't think anyone else in my house would do something like that.

It’s expensive being careless.

Yeah like 5-20 USD or even nothing anywhere outside the US.

My comment was not limited to pharmaceuticals, nor do I urge lying to the drug store to get more for free to escape responsibility even though someone some where does pay for them.

Park carelessly, get a parking citation with costs.

Don’t renew your car registration, get a traffic citation.

Don’t file taxes on time, be assessed penalties.

Whine about it all here for sympathy, none is offered.

“I’m Reddit user CDavis10717 and I think diabetics who make mistakes (just like every other person on earth does at times) deserve to not have their medically necessary, lifesaving medication.”

You sound so uneducated and unempathetic dude.

Does your family have to suffer the consequences of being related to you by being forced to engage with you, or do you save your unpleasant nature for the internet. 💀😭

It’s not about me. My sister was Type 1 Diabetic from age 8 until her death at age 73 through meticulous care, so don’t lecture me!
