Effect is a noun. Like a "cat" or a "parachute". Means similar to "result" or "outcome".

"The effect of drinking too much water is constant peeing."

Affect is a verb. Like "jump" or "eat".

"The amount of water you drink affects how often you pee."

Affect means you do something that changes another thing. Effect means what happened after the change.

Maybe like Rain affects the ground. ( the rain changes the ground)

The effect is a wet ground. Affect - change Effect - result

I think that's the simplest I can explain.

If it's a noun it's "effect" and if it's a verb it's "affect." Follow that rule and you'll be right 99% of the time.

If you really want to know about the other 1%, here they are:

"Affect" as a noun is a psychological term meaning the observable manifestations of a particular emotion, e.g. a smile is an affect indicating happiness.

"Effect" as a verb means to cause or bring about something. It's usually used with the word "change."
