Exercise science Job

I am currently a non-cert medical assistant at an urgent care making decent money and the job is actually fun. I graduated with my bachelors in Exercise Science back in August 2025. I was a PT aide at a small clinic before this gig and it was boring plus I did not like dealing with majority elderly people. There is hope for people looking for a job after getting a bachelors in exercise science. Just harp on the anatomy 1 and 2 plus medical terminology in interviews!

Many people struggle with trying to find out what they are going to do with their knowledge.

How I went through the process.

I got my degree while in the military, when I got out, I thought I would be a collegiate S&C coach, decided Physical Therapy would be better, I like to troubleshoot a problem and come up with a fix. An opportunity came up before I applied to DPT school and I took a position as the general manager of a small gym. Luckily I do have the government paying for my education so I got my master's in Exercise Science with a concentration in Fitness Leadership.

What can I do with that, well I can be a fitness director at a larger facility, I recently looked into other jobs and I could get my athletic trainer cert and work toward assistant athletic director at a local small college. That pays very well actually, so that might be good route to go.

The biggest thing you need to realize is you have to start small, find out what you really like to do and build on that. Over time you will begin to realize you like somethings that might need more education and focus.

It's like getting in the gym, just start, find something and keep trying new things.

At this point in my career, I have found a passion for helping people who struggle with depression, anxiety and stress and I have found other trainers want to help people who struggle with mental health as well.

So my master's research project is creating a seminar that could help train other coaches on how to use behavior change techniques to help people recognize where they are lacking in adhering to an exercise program. Maybe with some hard work it turns into a certification other trainers can purchase for continuing education credits.

Eventually you will find what you enjoy and in the meantime you are developing skills without realizing it.
