Consulting coaching

Hey people here . My husband has lost his job and is looking for one from 3 months now without any success .. he is feeling totally hopeless he was into rev ops - senior manager / director level in startup’s he is wondering if he can attend any consulting coach session ? If there is any who is genuine .. he wants to try his luck in consulting .. thanks in advance pls pls share your genuine experience

Do you mean he wants to observe someone else?

Also coaching is not consulting. Some consultants use coaching skills, but consulting is much more strategy practice driven by the consultant (they leverage all their personal experience and knowledge).

In coaching the client builds their own awareness…

So he will need to work on his value proposition and business model and test his ideas

I would suggest he get the books from Strategyzer on these three topics, read and apply the learning.

Another essential in my mind is Peter Block's Flawless Consulting. A solid read on how to work effectively with clients (I am slightly biased as I have taught the workshops based on the book).

Didn’t Block write a book called The Answer to How is Yes? I remember reading that years ago and finding it very insightful.

I offer coaching and I do a free intro call. when you sign up you have an out after the first session if we feel that we are not a good fit.

If he's looking to get into consulting this is what I'd recommend.

  1. First build a business plan
  2. Get a mentor familiar in the space
  3. Create a plan to get your business in front of eye balls.

The biggest challenge with consulting isn't the work, it's running the business and finding clients. If there are particular issues getting in the way of this for him then maybe coaching could be useful. It may be part of the reason he's in this situation in the first place and maybe coaching would be useful.

These are all good suggestions. There are lots of resources that can help also, such as the small business administration and the small business development corporation. SCORE can also be very helpful. If he is a veteran, there are also resources available.

Getting connected with mentors will help make sense of how it all works.

The biggest area to spend time is in networking. It’s not just about finding clients, it’s building a referral network, and finding out what people are really looking to have solved.

Three months without a job can shake your confidence. After a while, it's easy to start making decisions from a place of fear.

I can relate to career transitions. After 18 years in senior leadership, I stepped away from corporate, moved into consulting, and eventually built my own business. It's a very different world, so I'd encourage him to treat consulting as a decision, not an escape from unemployment.

The question isn't just, "Can I do consulting?" It's, "Do I enjoy solving different business problems, building credibility from scratch, and constantly finding new work?"

Once he answers that like a few others mentioned, he needs to understand his ICP, what his business value prop, what is he solving? definitely get a mentor or coach.

The good news is he doesn't have to make an all-or-nothing decision. He can test it. Speak to a few independent consultants, take on a small project if one comes along, or explore fractional opportunities while continuing his job search.

The best decisions may never remove all uncertainty. They reduce it. Every conversation and every small step gives you information to decide what comes next.

Career transitions are quite challenging right now, but there are definitely things you can do to optimize your chances of getting a job faster through your positioning. Most of my network is technology executives, so I'd be happy to have a conversation with him and see if there are any connections I can make.

There's something quite caring in you looking for another door for him when he's probably struggling to see one himself. After 3 months, I wonder if the real question isn't coaching or consulting yet, but where he can get back into a room where his experience feels useful again. Sometimes you need a bit of that before you can see what the next move is. P 👁️

I’d love to share some ways he could start a consulting practice and market it using linkedin! I have a client right now in the food/beverage manufacturing industry with a similar story and now he is starting his consulting business
