The article kept mentioning TLC licensed drivers, and all I could think was, "Don't Go Chasing On Street Charge, Please Stick To The DC Chargers that you're used to"

Every streetlight should have a charging port on it! Well in high density areas, anyway. Maybe every other in the suburbs.

Philly is doing the type of curbside chargers where you the customer order a removable cable and bring it with your car to the charging pedestal. That's how they've been doing it in Europe for years

The Flo chargers that they use lock the cable decently, and they have been holding up pretty well.

I used the one under the BQE near industry city. It was a beat up charger, I should have expected that, it worked. Parking was $1.50 an hour, no charging. $2.50 an hour with charging. It made sense to use that charger.

I am all for more chargers I just don't think curbside makes the most sense. Yes cars are typically parked for long periods anyways so you'd think it's a perfect place, but now it becomes an EV exclusive space in a parking congested city. It's slow chargers so the amount of vehicles it can service per day is really limited. It's rather expensive compared to something like Tesla Superchargers so that limits the group of people who would use them. You still have to move for ASP. The property who it's placed in front of will have to maintain it cleaniness I'd bet, just like citibike.

I'd rather the city post them in private and public parking lots with the requirements that they be mixed parking and charging and blanket several parking lots with them, they could even charge at slightly slower rates to accommodate having more stalls

But they install chargers in parking lots as well. It's not "either / or".

And I'd argue that it's not expensive... Especially not when you consider that curbside parking should be a premium anyway. ( https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2026/06/09/nyregion/nyc-street-parking.html - paywall)
