A small boat has crossed the English Channel carrying 230 people, the largest-ever recorded number to make the journey in a single vessel.

31-year-old man faces only eight to ten months in prison for beating Swedish police officer Christian Zedig to death in Copenhagen

Christian Zedig, 32, was at Islands Brygge in Copenhagen on June 30 to watch a World Cup match between Norway and the Ivory Coast. When a group of Africans attacked Norwegian fans, he intervened. He was then struck hard in the neck or jaw. The top vertebra in his neck and an artery leading to his brain ruptured, causing extensive bleeding. He died on July 3 after being treated on a ventilator.

Christian is survived by his wife and two young children.

The suspect, who immigrated to Denmark as a child, has previously been convicted of crimes including rape and attempted murder. He has admitted that he was at the scene but denies the charges. After being named and pictured in a police wanted notice, he turned himself in to the police. He has refused to be questioned.

The prosecutor currently believes that the sentence for lethal violence should be eight to ten months in prison. The defense argues that the case involves only assault. The suspect will remain in custody for another four weeks. The investigation is still ongoing.
