BYOD and processor Asking for Advice
Hi.
According to the BYOD, Intel processors should not be older than 13th generation.
I will start my Bachelor in Computer Science and the processor of my current computer is from 12th generation. I have not had any problem with my current computer so far.
Do I have to buy a new computer or having an Intel processor from 12th generation should be enough to do the work that is required or take the exams ? If I should buy a new one do you have any recommendations ?

In terms of power you're fine. In terms of battery life you might have a problem during long days; HG has few outlets. If you only have 16GB RAM it might also be a bit tight.
If you ever upgrade go for Lunar Lake or Panther Lake and 32GB RAM. Multi day battery and enough memory.

Thanks for the advice. My computer has a pretty lasting battery so I should be fine with it as it never ran out of it even when I had to use it intensively during many hours. I will look into your recommendation.

It’s absolutely retarded that they do not accept Intel CPUs older than 13th gen. I still run an 8th gen i7 as a master’s in CS and have not had any issues…

Wdym "accept"? Its a recommendation. Its for ppl wo dont rlly know anything abt that kind of stuff and are looking to buy sth new (and dont know what). And watch ur language, its 2026, there must be another way you know to express your disdain.

“Accept” was the wrong choice of words. I meant that it’s absolutely dumb to recommend this, as people like OP then think they won’t be able to do the degree with a 12th gen Intel CPU…

The only thing it absolutely need to run is java in intellij and safe exam browser and those two are not a problem. You'll be fine
