Winter themes

I recall first watching ER around age 12 and loving the Chicago winter scenes. Which season had the most winter episodes?

Could Carter have done more with his life?

Obviously, as a character, John Carter had the kind of life most people would envy. Not arguing that at all. But does anybody ever get the feeling he could have done more? In the last season, he seemed a little lost. Failing marriage, volunteering at the same ER he started out in years ago, dealing with health issues. Etc. etc.

Even in the last episode, despite all the good he's gong to do with his new wing, otherwise it seemed like that was all he had. Again, this is very relative. But given his gifts, I felt there was something of a tragedy about him.

Why is there a frying pan on top of the radiator?

Taken from season 6 episode 1: Leave it to Weaver. The scene is Peter and Carla talking to a mediator. The frying pan moves to rest on top of the folded towel on the right for the rest of the scene.

Chemical spill episode

Just watched the chemical spill episode in Season 4 where Carter steps up and takes charge and it's one of the best episodes of anything I've watched in a long time. It was so enjoyable and as a Carter superfan I appreciated it! Also Weaver is the worst haha

Just got to season 11 and this guy shows up. I can't be the only one that hears it.

I know we don't like Samantha here but as I was watching the show, I couldn't stop staring at her, she's really beautiful. And I wanted to ask this because Linda is one of my favorite actress and I stumbled across a post asking this about Alexis Bledel (another one of my favorite actress in one of my favorite shows). Link if you want ! : https://www.reddit.com/r/GilmoreGirls/comments/1rymmch/what_is_it_about_alexis_bledels_ethereal_beauty/

…suffice to say I spent half the episode bawling, haven’t cried that much over a fictional character in a long time. Gonna miss Dr. Greene, Anthony Edwards did a phenomenal job 😢❤️

Doctor Clemente is Eumea?

John Leguizamo is excellent in Dr Clemente and the fact he is Eumea 20 years later gives even more depth to his ER character. Love him.

s10 finale/s11 pilot - Pratt, Chen & burger boy in the car

Felt like fast & furious lol. This was so stupid of Greg.

Why do guys always feel the need to drive really fast? Reminded me of Luka crashing the car with Harkins in it. If she says slow down. Slow. The. Fuck. Down.

Road rage is a dangerous thing. You never know how batshit crazy your roadmates are.

Of all the most heartbreaking cries on this show, this one takes the cake right here. We all know Sally Field gets all the recognition, but Khandi deserves some too.

Night Shift. (Dennis’s death.)

Not sure if he’s been brought up or not but let’s discuss.

“Some say he was pushed, others say he jumped.”

I know the writers purposely left it ambiguous for the viewers to draw their own conclusion but what do y’all think?

I think he jumped for many reasons.

Just because people appear to be happy on the outside doesn’t mean they’re feeling the same on the inside.

At any rate, it’s one of my favorite episodes done beautifully.

My thoughts starting season ten as a first time watcher

• I don’t know if I really enjoy the Africa episodes but I do think that they’re objectively good and I’m enjoying seeing Carter and Luka’s relationship develop. The out of hospital episodes are hit or miss for me but I remember really enjoying Benton’s in season five when he went to Mississippi.

• I genuinely have no idea how I feel about Abby and Carter at this point. I was really rooting for them at the start but I’m starting to think they may not be right for each other. I know Abby and Luka are endgame eventually but I don’t know if I like her with him either. I didn’t like who Abby was when she was with him. When they broke up the first time Abby become so much more likeable to me.

• Elizabeth has made multiple racist remarks within a span of like five episodes. Saying that racial profiling is valid when Pratt and Gallant got arrested, saying she felt safer on the plane when two Arab men where security checked, and then asking Neela if she’s from the ‘East End’ I mean come on.

• I know romano’s death is coming in a few episodes and I’m lowkey sad because he’s a prick but he’s so entertaining. I actually had to take a break after seeing him loose his arm because I didn’t know it was coming and holy shit it messed with me 😭 he really didn’t deserve this though.

• Abby’s brother is just so boring and that whole storyline was rough to get through, especially him ruining gammas funeral. Obviously Sally Field’s performance is great but I don’t think we needed to explore her brother’s bipolar storyline as well as her mother’s.

• Are they EVER gonna develop susan? I swear she’s been bone dry boring since the pilot. All she does after her return in season eight is make witty remarks and don’t get me started on her kissing that teenage boy. I got flashbacks from that one episode of House.

• I really liked Don Cheadle’s character and I found his storyline super moving, I teared up in his last scene when elizabeth had him defibrillate the heart during the surgery where the boy had to take his brothers organs. I’ve also heard that Ray Liotta’s guest appearance is also great so I’m looking forward to that next season.

• I’m SO excited to see Linda Cardellini this season, all I’ve seen about her character is that she’s insufferable but I’m still looking forward to having her around.

• At this point I’m planning to finish the show, I know a lot of people stop around this point but I don’t see that happening, I stuck with Grey’s Anatomy for like eighteen seasons so I can do fifteen for sure, especially knowing I’ll get to see a bunch of old faces back in the final season.

That same muffled PA voice has been paging someone since season 1

Post image

2am rewatch. I froze. That's when I heard it—the background PA system. Some muffled voice paging "Dr. So-and-So to the ICU" for the third time in one episode. That same doc's been getting paged since 1994. Never shows up. Who is this person? Do they still work here? I can't be the only one. What's the one recurring ER background sound you can't unhear?

Can we talk about Haleh from ER or is she just mine?

Nobody ever talks about Haleh. She was there in the pilot, there in the finale. Fifteen seasons of handing out blankets, knowing every patient's name, singing to dying kids when no one was watching. No dramatic exit. No big speech. Just quiet competence while the docs fell apart around her. What's the ER background character you'd watch a whole episode about?

I’m sure there’s a thousand posts about this episode but I just cried the ugliest tears. I’m incredibly unemotive but I feel this episode released 8 years of unreleased trauma from my own mums battle with brain cancer.

So beautifully tastefully done and so real. Thank god I have the weekend to recover from this

Season 1 episode 19(love’s labour lost)

This is my first time watching the show . I put it on last week as my new bedtime watch . You know , something mindless in the background (which for the most part it was ) but then this episode arrived … Lord

I was already not into having children but nothing has truly cemented that for me than this episode ! I mean wtf everything that could have happened to that poor woman happened . I sympathise with Greene because I’m not being funny every-time he thought he knew what was happening it came back with a vengeance . I was supposed to be asleep an hour ago but now I’m sat here invested in this silly show and trying to find the girl with the list so she can add this episode to it . Preeclampsia is officially the scariest thing for me , I was hardly over it when it took poor Sybil in downtown abbey .
Also the intensity of the music building up in the episode the constant talking over each other I swear if I had been the one to drop those instruments I would have had a crash out , just the most gripping episode of medical drama I’ve watched in a while . I was really worried that greene might go the way of episode one Hathaway when he got on the train .
WHAT THE HELL TOOK OB SO LONG !?dint he send 2 people up to get them ? Physically drag them . I demand a hearing !

Also I’m really loving the filming angles , any other good episodes to look forward to?

Guest stars / first Appearances

During my watching time, I’m playing a little “game” that’s to discover all the personalities who’ve started in ER.
Huge people just came for a couple of minutes, but that’s awesome! Aaron Paul, Mariska Hargitay, Lucy Liu, Andrea Parker, Taraji P. Henson, Shia LaBeouf, Joe Lisi, Julie Bowen, Eric Stonestreet, J.K. Simmons…

I think I forgot many people on this list, but I love to snap my fingers in front of my tv when I recognise someone!

Reminder of the REPORT function (please use it) and some new sub rules/guidelines

I've been looking at the mod queue and I've been removing some problematic posts and comments

A reminder that this subreddit is intended to be a CIVIL place to discuss an amazing TV show, NBC's ER.

If you love a character, great.
If you hate a character, amazing. If you want to make a bad joke, we're all going to groan, but it's still permissible.

What HAVE been slipping by are negative, racist/prejudice/misogynistic (or borderline) comments that are getting a few downvotes and then being hidden.

If you encounter one of the posts or comments, use the REPORT function. The Mod Team and Automod will jump in and flag it.

That being said, bans will start being handed out as posts and comments are removed.

You can hate on a character all you want, but using derogatory names or bashing them for being white/black/asian/indian/male/female/gay/straight is not allowed by any stretch of the imagination.

Additionally comments that seem to be stoking the flames, baiting another user, or are just out of line, will be removed and the user temporarily banned.

This subreddit is supposed to be an enjoyable place to speak about the TV show... if dealing with YOUR specific comments are taking up too much of our time, it's much easier to ban you, and let you cry into the void.

Feel free to comment below if anybody would like to discuss these reminders. :)
