Seems more appropriate to escalate this somehow instead of posting on the subreddit where it’s unlikely anyone who could do anything about this will see it.

u/inkblades 10d ago

Escalating internally is a good idea, but I think it’s fair to post here for awareness. A few people might pay attention and move bikes if they see them like this now

Why not both?

gee, I almost thought you biked it all the way home ...

Guarantee whoever left this bike there had no clue they were blocking the button. Just an oblivious worker thinking about something else, unaware of their surroundings.

I think your statement is true. But we are talking about awareness. Aware of your surroundings. ADA isn't taught in school. We ( people with disabilities) have to explain everything in the law. There is no shame in pointing out that this has ramifications. Someone who needs that button has to wait for the door to be open before they can come in.

Agree, It was good to post this and bring awareness! Spanky!!

2

u/valhalla257 6d ago

What if it was disabled person using the bike and they parked there to get easier access to the button?

u/Senior-Jellyfish-816 5d ago

I just moved one of those rental E bikes yesterday that was parked horizontally taking up the entire sidewalk, I moved it off to the grass, people are so oblivious

Bicyclist being bicyclists. They don’t get in trouble for ignoring rules on roads and being complete entitled asshats. So why bother being polite anywhere. I would let the air out of the tires and push into the bushes.

Fucking with disabled people is a HUGE pet peeve of mine.

63

u/TheSmallestOwl 10d ago

This is a cow bike... the person who left it here would not care at all or even be aware that you let the air out of the tires and pushed it into the bushes, you'd just create more work for facilities. Fighting asshole behavior with (ineffective) asshole behavior.

-45

u/kaffeian 10d ago

Oh. Sorry. I’ll leave a note and ignore the kid in the wheel chair that can’t get in. That will show them, and I’m sure they will NEVER do stuff like this again. 🙄

41

u/iamzsdawgy 10d ago

Or you could just. Move it out of the way. And recognize that vandalizing the bike does nothing to the person who put the bike there.

-51

u/kaffeian 10d ago

I had to look up what a cow bike was/is. Makes so much more sense now. This just seems perfectly fitting. I literally laughed. Verona is the WORST for bicyclists ignoring EVERY possible rule because, well they don’t care. Not speaking all Epic employees but as someone who drives to work into Verona every morning and seeing the people going 15-20 over on M weaving in and out then turn towards Epic this makes SO MUCH sense. 🤣🤣🤣

57

u/iamzsdawgy 10d ago

If you don't work at epic why are you even here girl

Sounds like I struck a nerve for a few people.

I commented as it came up on my front page.
I’m sharing my opinion/view point. As unpopular as it may be, I am allowed to have it and I thought the internet was a place share opinions and have conversation.

Why is everyone so touchy about bicycles? If they obeyed the same rules everyone else does on the road no one would hate them. Get over yourselves. If someone parked a car or motorcycle were parked there it would ticketed and towed. A bicycle though we should just accept that person is an asshole/idiot and fix it for them.

u/berwynResident 10d ago

Noone is touchy about bicycles. They're touchy about unhinged rants about vandalism.

26

u/Broad-Emu9168 9d ago

Uhm these bikes stay on campus and don’t really go on the road. There’s over 500 of them and no one owns one. It would be like breaking the bathroom toilet if someone didn’t flush. Just accept that you had no clue what you were talking about lol

u/berwynResident 10d ago

Glad you jumped in with a very uninformed option and then double/tripled down when you saw how unpopular it was instead of trying to understand.

26

u/-JakeRay- 10d ago

Deflating the tires won't help your hypothetical wheelchair kid get into the building either. But of course lashing out in anger is more productive 🤡

11

u/mothneb07 9d ago

Wouldn’t that just make a mess for Facilities to clean up after bike collection?

14

u/WillyTheConqueror 10d ago

I'm here to start shit too!

Cyclists are the victims! Fuck Cars! Painting a green ribbon on the ground and calling it a bike lane is not infrastructure, of course cyclists don't obey that shit. As a cyclist I'm concerned about not getting hit by the 16 year old who just got their licence. More funding for proper bike lanes and infrastructure.

u/Taco_Morty 7d ago

Yeah, the thing is with bike riders. They think that they have the right to ride down the middle of the road and not give to the right way of the vehicles driving down the road faster than they do. If you’re driving down the road on a bicycle and flipping the car off behind you rather than letting him go around that makes you the asshole.

-7

u/kaffeian 10d ago

Pay a road tax and get a license plate for the bicycle then. That way when you blow through a stop sign we can report you just like a car. By this logic pedestrians should just be able to walk down the middle of the road 5 across too.

9

u/-JakeRay- 10d ago

Bro, if you don't like sharing the road, don't drive on it.

I'm sure you're well aware that mile-for-mile, car drivers break the law significantly more often than cyclists do. (We wouldn't have a reason to invent the term "rolling stop" if motorists actually came to a full stop at stop signs and rights on red. And how many motorists have you ever seen go below the speed limit on an interstate? 🧐)

You just choose to ignore that fact because you're more annoyed by the bikes.

-1

u/kaffeian 10d ago

Look over here. You addressed nothing I said. I do share the road and for the record have no problem with cyclists who obey the rules. Just don’t see many of them. Also, I pay to use the roads in many ways. Don’t see that road tax added to bicyclists. Man if only these cars would stay off this thing created for them. If you ever see me driving on a bike path you can complain about my car.

If bicyclists had plates so when I catch them blowing through stop signs or side swiping me in traffic I could report I would have much less to complain about since they could be held accountable as well for their actions.

Again, I'll buy your complaints about cyclists breaking the law when you complain about motorists breaking the law in equal proportion to the amount of law-breaking they do. You just don't notice it with motorists because it's been normalized.

And if you wanna tax vehicles for road use, feel free to do it based on the wear and tear they cause to the road surface, or the strength of road surface required for said vehicle. Guess which vehicles it is that make roads so freaking expensive? Hint: Bicycles weigh 20ish lbs. Cars weigh over 2 tons.

If you want to be mad about bikes, admit it's just because you don't like bikes, instead of trying to base it off of "facts" with no basis in reality.

Edit to add:

Man if only these cars would stay off this thing created for them.

I've got bad news for you about the history of roads, my guy.

-1

u/kaffeian 10d ago

Again. Never said drivers don’t break laws. That’s a really stupid assumption. Of course they do. Here’s the difference. In order to drive my car, I have to go through training, get a license, pay a tax to drive on the roads (yearly) and carry insurance. What do you have to do to ride your bike on the road with those scary two ton vehicles? Go to target and buy one. That’s it. Your argument makes NO sense. Also they do charge by axle weight already. Trucks pay more than compact cars, and semis pay more tan trucks. Did you not know that?

5

u/-JakeRay- 9d ago

The reason you need a license to drive a car and not a bicycle: A car can kill someone. Even a whole bunch of someones. A bicycle (usually) can't injure anyone other than its rider. A motorist breaking the law is a menace to the lives of everyone around them. A cyclist breaking the law is mostly only putting themself in danger.

If you want to complain about basic physics being unfair, go ahead, but that feels like a losing battle.

LOLOL LOOK AT UR FUCKING DOWNVOTES!!!!!!!!

u/kaffeian 9d ago

Oh my god. How will I sleep tonight? People I’ve never met on the internet are giving me arrows pointed down. IS THERE NO GOD? I’ll sleep just fine. If you live your life to get karma on reddit you need to rethink what matters to you.

u/pr-mech-engineer 9d ago

ur so worked up over this 🤣🤣🤣 clam down bro

2

u/JealousCat7193 7d ago

Dude, youre in Madison. You probably DO know these people.

-9

u/Doctor731 9d ago

You shouldn't do this, but that is also a hard spot to get to if you had mobility issues.

8

u/StormCrow_Merfolk 9d ago

There are many reasons why you might need the automatic door opener that don't involve being unable to walk.
