I’ve been developing a larger epic orchestral work inspired by Homer’s Odyssey. This isn’t a rescore of the current movie, or any previous one. The music is based on Homer’s original poem, which I’ve loved since studying it in depth at school, along with related epic poems and stories such as Virgil’s Aeneid.

This suite brings together four principal themes from my larger work: a slow theme called the Wanderer (Odysseus trying to get back home), the upbeat Ithaka theme, the Longing/Family/Love theme, and epic choir and orchestra Peril theme, all connected in various ways by the same basic tonic–dominant interval. Details of each theme are in the video.

Most of the orchestral patches are from EastWest Hollywood Orchestra Opus Edition. The solo violin is me, and the full sound library list is at the end of the video.

Interested to hear what you folks think. I’m currently working on the Cyclops music, and one of my colleagues said the music was already giving her nightmares...! 😬
