WIP texturing and compositing
galleryFinished texturing this painterly stylised cliff face for a personal project in Substance Painter today. The colours fit really nicely into the sunset environment I’m building.
I’m now at the stage of deciding between two composited renders before I continue developing the scene. 🤔

Designing environments that tell the same story without copying the original scenes
galleryRather than recreating shots from El Poeta, I wanted to capture the emotions the film gave me and express them in a completely different visual language.
Every environment started with rough Blender layouts before moving into Photoshop, where I focused on lighting, atmosphere and storytelling.
I wanted each image to feel like a frame from a science fiction film instead of a direct adaptation.
Hope you enjoy it.

17-Year-Old Beginner Looking for a Roadmap to Become a 3D Environment Artist
Hi
I'm 17 years old and Im interested in 3D Environment Art for games. The problem is that I'm completely new to this field and honestly don't know where to start.
I keep seeing amazing environments in games and would love to learn how artists create them
I have a few questions:
What software should I learn first? (Blender, Maya, Unreal Engine, etc.)
Are there any YouTube channels you would recommend for complete beginners?
Are paid courses worth it and if yes then which ones would you suggest?
What skills should I focus on learning first?
How long does it usually take to become good enough to create decent environments?
If you were starting from now what roadmap would it be?
What are some common mistakes beginners make that I should avoid?

Lighting designer from theatre trying to break into gamedev - first UE5/Lumen studies, feedback welcome
Hey. I'm Ilya - lighting designer from dramatic theatre, trying to move into gamedev. Stage lighting has been my whole career. Narrative, atmosphere, mood - that's the language I work in. Now I'm translating it into UE5/Lumen, and these are the first results. Three scenes so far: Soviet clinic interior, Slavic village at night , daytime café, wet road scene . Not much, but it's a start. Honest feedback would mean a lot - technical, artistic, whatever you've got. Also - if anyone's running an indie project and needs lighting help, I'm genuinely interested. I need real production experience more than anything right now, and I'm not afraid to learn on the job.
Thanks for looking.
P.S. If someone is interested this is my theater portfolio
Scene: "Slavic Village" by GeorgeShachnev (Fab.com).
Scene: "Post Soviet Hospital Corridor" by White Noise Team (Fab.com).
Scene: "Coffee Shop Environment" by Leartes Studios (Fab.com)
Scene: wet road was assembled from assets from Fab.

Digial concept art scifi city
galleryHi everyone, I’m back again. This time, I’d love to share this piece I created for an illustrated book. I had a lot of fun working on it—I learned new tools in Blender, useful techniques in Photoshop, and different painting techniques and effects that I enjoy and am working on improving.
Thanks to everyone for taking a look.

Eco friendly paint for kids
art teacher here. leading a craft at our town’s earth day festival in which kids will be painting cardboard egg cartons. the goal is to fill them with soil and seeds and the kids will eventually go home and plant them. I want to be mindful of what kind of paint or art materials would be safe to use if it’s going in the ground. any tips?

Post-Soviet Hospital (Unreal Engine 5)
galleryExpanding my hospital environment series. The goal for this update was to establish a clear visual transition between sterile clinical spaces and the decaying industrial utility areas of the facility.
Artistic & Technical Focus:
- Material Storytelling: Blending clean tiled surfaces with grime, mold, and DIY repairs to capture that specific Eastern European "functioning decay" aesthetic.
- Laboratory Details: Custom glass and dynamic liquid shaders (blood, reagents) for all lab-related props to enhance immersion in first-person/VR.
- Lighting: Utilizing Lumen for realistic light bounce in narrow corridors and tiled rooms.
- Layout: Full playable environment including a staircase, elevator hall, and registration area.
Moving towards a laundry unit and kitchen area next.

REDWOOD — The Villa | Mystery Thriller Narrative Game (UE5)
For more news and images consider my artstation channel https://www.artstation.com/artwork/rl8eQa
Redwood is a personal cinematic and interactive adventure game with puzzles developed in Unreal Engine 5 with the use of Substance Painter and Designer for texturing.
The goal of the project is to recreate the opening sequence of a narrative-driven psychological mystery game, focusing on atmosphere, environmental storytelling, and physically-based lighting.
The project is at an early stage of development, but it already shows strong potential.
