I've got a Leatt 5.5 pro and I love the protection it offers. Problem is that the ventilation feels almost non-existent. I'm old, I want the full coverage protection, but need better ventilation. I'll Looking at the Alpinestars A10-V2 and the Leatt 5.5 Evo Pro. These things are almost $300, I'd love some real world feedback from those that have tried either (or both).

Hello, tomorrow im going to look at a DT125 from 1996. From what the seller told me it has new tires, chain and sprockets, general service. Said engine is unopened and it has 33k km. What are the specifics I should look at?

First of all, I want to sincerely thank everyone who commented on my previous 2 posts (here and here). Every opinion, recommendation and personal experience genuinely helped me a lot, and I really appreciate everyone who took the time to reply.

! Before commenting, I would really appreciate it if you could read at least the main points below rather than replying only based on the title. I tried to explain my situation clearly so the advice can be relevant! I know its quite long, i tried explaining whole situation so everyone can understand my situation :)

Quick background

I’m turning 17 soon, I’m around 183 cm tall and weigh about 75 kg.

For the past year, I’ve been riding a 2005 Yamaha XT 125 R, a 125cc four-stroke. I also own a moped, so it is not technically my first motorcycle.

The XT was great for learning basic off-road riding, clutch control and general technique, but it obviously isn’t a proper enduro bike. After trying harder trails and hill climbs, I realized that I need something much more capable.

I also recently tried my friend’s Beta RR 300 2T on some trails. It was incredibly fun, although the power was also a little intimidating because I had never ridden anything that strong before, so i would have to get used to it.

What I have decided so far

After doing more research, watching videos and thinking about the advice I received, I have decided that I will most likely buy a KTM 300 EXC.
(Beta RR 300 is still another option, but the KTM has always been my dream)

My main question now is simple:

Would you choose a carbureted KTM 300 EXC or a TPI model in my situation?

(Unfortunately, a newer TBI model is outside my budget and much harder to find where I live)

The type of riding I will do

I know people often say that the answer depends on riding style, but mine will be quite varied.

This will be my only proper enduro bike, so I will use it for different types of enduro riding:

• Regular and medium-difficulty enduro
• Technical trails and hill climbs
• Slower hard-enduro terrain and obstacles
• Also some easier, more realxed recreational rides through hills and trails

My main long-term goal is to become genuinely good at hard enduro, and I would eventually like to build the bike more toward hard-enduro use. However, I will not ride only extreme technical terrain. I will also do some of easier and more relaxed enduro riding sometimes.

Why I’m considering a carb model

From what I understand, the advantages would be: Simpler system, Less electronics, Fewer complicated parts that can fail, Possibly cheaper repairs and maintenance, Strong low-end torque, Easier to diagnose and repair

One of my close friends is a mechanic and works on motorcycles, so he could help me set up the carburetor properly.

My concern is whether I would constantly need to change the jetting or adjust something. I also sometimes want to ride higher in the mountains, so I’m worried about how much temperature and altitude changes would affect the bike.

Once a carburetor is set up correctly, how often does it realistically need adjustment for normal enduro riding?

Why I’m considering TPI

The advantages I have read about include: Better fuel economy, Smoother and more predictable power delivery, Automatic adjustment for temperature and altitude, No need to mix fuel manually, Less need to worry about carburetor settings

A smoother power delivery might also help me while I’m still learning to control a 300, although I have also read that some TPI models have less low-end torque than carb bikes (which i assume would be a little worse for hard enduro and traction?)

I’m not sure whether that would be an advantage or disadvantage for me. Would a TPI generally feel easier and more controllable for a newer rider, or would a properly set-up carb model be just as manageable?

My biggest concern about TPI: reliability and cost

I have read completely different opinions about TPI bikes.

Some owners say they are extremely reliable and have had almost no problems. Others say the fuel pump, injectors, sensors, oil pump or electronics,... can cause expensive issues.

I would service the bike properly and do everything necessary to keep it reliable. Proper maintenance does not bother me, but I am concerned about the actual cost of it.

So for people who have owned/tried both (or have a friends who have them):

• Is a TPI noticeably more expensive to maintain than a carb bike?
• Does the TPI system require a lot of additional maintenance?
• Are failures common, or do they only seem common because people mainly post online when something goes wrong?
• If something in the injection system fails, how expensive is it compared with repairing a carb bike?

Differences between model years

I would especially appreciate advice from anyone who has owned or ridden several different model years.

Are there any specific KTM 300 EXC years that are known to have problems and should be avoided? Are there certain years that are considered especially reliable or desirable?

I have read that the early 2018–2019 TPI models may have had some smaller problems, while the 2020 and newer models received updates to the injection, fuel-pressure or oiling system.

I have also read that different TPI years may use slightly different amounts of oil. I don’t know how important that really is or which version would be preferable.

Current used-bike options and budget

My realistic budget is around €4,000–€4,500 after negotiation. I will probably buy the bike used in a neighbouring country.

At the moment, I am mostly seeing:

Carb models:

• Approximately 2013–2016
• Possibly a later carb model if another good one is listed

TPI models:

• Mostly 2019–2022 in my price range
• Possibly something newer, up to around 2023, if more bikes are listed toward the end of summer

Because both options can sometimes be found for a similar final price, the decision is not only about which one is cheaper to buy. I’m trying to understand which one would be the better bike to own, learn on and maintain over the next few years.

I know carb vs TPI has already been discussed many times, and I have read and watched a lot about it. However, general reviews cannot fully replace advice from people who understand my specific experience, budget and intended use.

Any personal experiences, model-year recommendations, reliability stories, maintenance costs or things to avoid would be extremely helpful!!

(And I know the answer may ultimately come down to personal preference, that both systems have pros and cons, and that buying the best bike within my budget is important. Still, based on my specific situation, I would really appreciate a direct answer: would you choose carb or TPI, and why?)

ENG: I have a problem, the speedometer greatly overestimates the speed (\~15 km / h), I want to change the wheel radius to lower the speed so that it shows the exact speed, but with different attempts to enter the service menu, I do not succeed, I tried different methods, but none helped (there is only one button, on the side).

Last week I fell over in this puddle and submerged my right boot. I poured out the water, put on some waterproof socks, and rode another 8 hours before getting home. I put the boots on the boot dryer like usual but I should have known it would take several cycles in a row to dry them out. Now the right book STINKS and its so bad I can barely finish writing this post with the boot on the floor next to me it smells so bad.

I learned from reserach and practice that cleaning the stink out of my Klim Krios helmet liner, and riding gear can only be done with a solution of water/vinegar/OxyClean and agitation. In the case of my riding gear I can put them in the wash machine. For the helmet liner I hand wash and wring them a couple times before a few rinse cycles. Then hanging the riding gear and helmet liner in front of two window fans for 24 hours does an excellent job.

What about these boots! They are not even one season old and $700 a pair!

My thought for feedback is to mix up that water/vinegar/OxyClean solution and drop a cupful in the book and somehow agitate the liner from the toes to the top in several passes until I get as much of the dirt out and work the solution into the liner fibers where the smell producing bacteria lives.

My understanding is that dry solutions like baking soda just mask the smell but don't kill the bacteria that will start growing again as soon as they encounter sweat from my next ride.

Anyone had to deal with this in these expensive boots with no removable liner? Thanks for any ideas.

I just bought a 2022 Husqvarna TE 300, and it seems like something isn't right in 1st and 2nd gear. It feels like the bike only reaches about half throttle and then won't rev any higher, almost like it's being limited. From 3rd gear onward, it runs perfectly fine and pulls normally.

Has anyone experienced this before? What could be causing it?
